Anyone have any pictures of Silver, Pewter, Charcoal, Gray or anything along the likes of that on a MGB? Im trying to help a friend decide what color to paint his car. He has bounced from Yellow, to Iris Blue, and now thinking of Silver. It is a 78 that has been converted to chrome bumpers.
Thanks,
Bryan

Hi everyone,
I'm Seth, the person for whom Bryan started this thread. Just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for the photos. I'll try to be more active here in the future, but would also like to say thanks to my friend, Bryan, without whom this car would never have made it this far. Pics to come soon!
Best,
Seth
Here is an image I took of the Silver Lady. It is heavily modified, with a V8

This one was at PIR this weekend. I took the picture as I'm also considering a gunmetal gray metallic. Thought this one looked very nice.
This one was there too. Hope I'm not offending anyone by posting pictures of their cars. It's intended as a compliment.
I liked this car for it's color, stipe and front valance.
Welcome aboard Seth. Hope to drop by this week and see the results of your car. Keep us informed.
Jim
I questioned Seth when he said he wanted to go this route but these are nice looking cars. I really like the gunmetal. Is that what you were thinking of Seth?
Bryan, here is a up close and personal shot of The Bearcar during its revival work. This color is a stock Chrysler color "Metallic Platinum" It has a small flake in it and truly "jumps out" when the light hits it at the right viewing angle and yet appears like a solid silver cast base color other times. I apologize for the quality of this image but it does give a general idea.
Jim B.
Jim, very nice. Got a photo of the engine compartment? Curious what you did there.
Thanks,
Frank
I just got off the phone with Seth and he said he really likes the "gunmetal". We will be looking at paint chips and picking the exact shade this week. Fingers crossed, if we can finish up the last bit of body work we plan to shoot it this weekend.
Thanks for the photos!
My favourite silver car by far is Lloyd Hess' Pewter Metallic roadster

Tasteful and elegant inside, outside and all the way around.
One more, I'm sure this belongs to someone on here. Absolutely stunning;
I know I sound like a broken record here, and I'm sorry, but what are you going to do with the engine compartment. I'm about a week away from doing mine (compartment) and still lost for a final plan.
I'm torn between a bright metallic blue ( what I would consider "eye catching" ) and metallic gun metal gray ( what I would consider eloquent ), but am torn between painting the engine compartment the same color, or something just a little different, like hammered. I want some contrast there, with the engine to be the focal point. If I can settle on something I like, I'd likely do the trunk the same as the engine compartment.
So, I'm still looking for options.
Hi Frank,
I'm on a budget and tight time constraints at this point, and this really a budget driver gone a little crazy. I currently live and teach in NYC and the car is in NC, so I only get to drive it occasionally at this point. Originally I planned on just blacking out the engine bay. Nothing fancy. For now, in order to get it back on the road asap, the engine bay and inside of trunk will remain Vermillion, to be finished at a later date, probably next summer when I'm not teaching. Thanks for all the help everyone!
Seth
Also, my engine is just stock, but runs great with 105,000 orig miles!
For those who are curious, here is the last full body photo I took, just after Bryan shot primer. He's really getting good at this!
Frank, I only really have some closer shots of the engine sitting in the compartment and not a standing back view. When I was having the car repainted I had a lengthy conversation with the paint shop regarding what I could do and the decisions I needed to make about the engine bay color. Hmmmm. At the time I was a bit hurried and wanting to get the car back on the road as well as beginning to run short of funds. I also wished to showcase the motor more than the surrounding wiring and mechanicals etc., so I made the decision to go with a flat black arrangement which would do exactly what I was wanting to do at a minimal cost. So The guy that laid down the color on the body mixed up some automotive paint in flat black and shot the compartment. The purists had a field day with that one but it was a decision that I made and so far I am liking it. The engine is the Maroon with Grey accents and stands out quite well. Opinions vary but it is one way to go. Good luck making your choice, I know it can be a rough one, but, in the end, it is your car.
Jim B.
Thanks Jim. Seems like we're on the same page. I really do understand the purist point of view, but my car was originally Iris blue, and I just can't do it. No offense to those with Iris, but it's just not me. And since I'm changing exterior color, changing the engine compartment and trunk shouldn't cause further grief. We'll just have to see what happens. I'm taking pics as I go, and even it doesn't turn out well, I'll post. I'm sure there'll be others with the same perdiciment.
Aw man, Iris Blue, that is such a unique, period color. Gosh, to me that would be a tough decision to change color, I like that one and one doesn't see many in it. Grampian Grey is another of my all time preferences and the different shades of silver are of course non-stock but extremely eye catching. (for me anyway) Good luck and keep us up to speed.
Jim B.
Here is my Pewter Metallic 74. Thanks for the kind words Greg..
These are some beautiful examples. An Aston-like silver birch w/ black interior B GT is still my ultimate goal. While not original colors on their own, silver/grey/pewter B's are definitely a rarer breed among the bright reds and racing greens. Classy look.
I've attached one I found on Flickr. Link to original: http://www.flickr.com/photos/-eu/2581127972/
If you want to keep it an MG colour all the 1980 GT LE in the UK where done in Pewter.
photo of a gray Costello GT.
This is a pic I pulled from a local dealer WireWheel
I just loved the color, they had a ton of photos but sadly they are all gone now. It was a beautiful car ... good luck!
Geoff

Hammered gunmetal would be a really neat look, and would go great with any other color.
Ok Frank I will Concede that you have decided against Iris Blue. But if you do a Silver car. Please keep the interior red LOL!!!!! And keep the engine the original maroon, man that would be real sharp!!!
Seth picked his color today. We shot the spoiler tonight to see how it was going to look. I hope the color comes through in the photos, this color is beautiful in person.
The first photo was taken right after the spoiler was shot, the air was a little hazy still. The close up gives you a better idea on the color.
I like it, and yeah, a Red or perhaps medium two-toned Blue interior would rock.
Jim B.
Seth, that color is great. I hope to see a finished paint job on Sunday afternoon.
OK Bryan, what paint code did Seth wind up selecting? Inquiring minds want to know.
Jim B.
Wow, not being a huge fan of gray or silvers this paint rocks. I stopped by last evening to check out the spoiler and progress of the car, this color is awesome. The metallic really pops out at you even though there was no metallic added. Can't wait to see the completed project.
How far did you all get on the rest of the car last night? Post some more pictures.
BMC had a "Grampian Grey" that was pretty - had a '67 GT in that color "in the day." Red leather interior, wires! Pics? Long lost! *sigh*
Jim (geronimo),
I dont know the paint code off the top of my head. He knew what he wanted so he went to NAPA and looked at a chip book for about an hour and picked this out. The paint brand is Martin Senour (Sherwin Williams). It is a mid grade single stage paint.
Jim (mgbjones),
We got the dogleg finished up, and got the boot and bonnet ready for it's final coat of primer. Looked over the entire car to see where we stand and called it a night. It needs primer on the areas that were repaired, then blocked and fingers crossed it comes out straight. We also test fitted the grill you brought by and got it fitting real nice.
Here is a photo from late last night. The air dam is not mounted I am just holding it up. The grill is not fastened it is just stuck in place. Keep in mind this was a rubber bumper car.
Here she is, the paint is literally still wet. I will take some more photos in the sun when it dries. Seth had to go back to NY on friday so these photos are the first he gets to see of his car also. The photos dont do the color justice. When he puts the chrome and his Minilite wheels on it, it is going to really pop!
I think that's one of the most "sophistocated" or eloquent colors out there.
I think I'll do my baby-shit brown though. That'll make yours look even better!
Bryan is truly a wonderful friend for all the time and effort he put into this car! I couldn't be happier!!!! Oh, wait, yes I could... if I was there to see it in person! As it stands, my teaching schedule won't let me get back until Thanksgiving... but... I may not be feeling well next weekend and have to take a sick day or 3 haha! Seriously, it looks amazing! I can't wait that long to start putting it back together. Thanks to everyone here for your photos, suggestions and support. This is a really great community! Anyone here in the NYC area that needs an extra set of hands working on something, or would just like to chat sometime, just message me! Thanks again!
Best,
seth
Bryan, Seth that thing looks good from the pictures. I can't wait to make the trek over to Bryans to see it up close. Seth, that will be a real nice driver once you get it back together.
There is someone here with an absolutely stunning silver/gray car. Seems like it was a Jag XK12 color. A bit darker than most silver grays. Cannot remember who it is. Rick Stevens maybe? No, his is red. Someone else?
Here is a photo of the last MGB GT ever built, in the Heritage Museum at Gaydon:
