MGB: Slight Moss rant

Has anyone installed the replacement rubber floor matt supposidely original furnish from Moss? I have already sent my supplier and email.
The thickness of the rubber is very nice about 3 times as thick as original.
Problem is especially on driver side the LH edg is about 1/2 in too wide. There is a rib that runs around the edge like the original so if I trim it then I lose the rib. Rats.

Send it back Gil. They need to know it's wrong. I find it amazing how often this happens. It can't be because it's cheaper to manufacture it too big, it's just cheap shoddy suppliers. BTW, the rubber's background texture looks wrong too.

Perhaps when it was built they welded the rockers to close...Moss must get measurements from you'd hope Heritage shells.

Just a thought Gill...

Looking at them side by side, it looks like a trim would do it. You would then have what you started with.

I have had a couple of problems with Moss recently. I know it is a stupid thing, but I ordered a key fob from them that got back ordered for months. When I finally received the fob, it was a total piece of crap. Hardly worth the wait for it.

I will send that back along with a couple of other parts I received from them that were incorrectly marked in the bags. It is not a big deal, just a pain sometimes.

If I trim to fit then i lose the rib on one side or the other. Also the circles where the snaps go with snaps installed dont line up so mat lays flat like original. I guess I coud trim then glue it down and forget the snaps.

Don't the early cars (3 sync transmission) have wider floorboards than the later cars (4 sync transmission)? Just a thought.

I can understand the frustration. Ill fitting trim stuff and junk accessories are bad enough and sometimes can be altered to fit. What gets me going is mechanical components that are poor quality or not in spec. Reminds me of that old comercial for one of the parts chains. Guy as a kid beating a playschool square peg into a round hole saying "parts are parts"

I believe they do. The passenger side fits better so the difference must be on driver side. I trimmed both sides of each up to the edge of the original rib on the new ones and the driver side is still wider. While I was trimming i noticed numbers on the old ones and new ones. A23MK2RHL1 the old one and A23MK2L4 on the new one. The passenger side ends with A23MK2RHR5 on old one and new one is A23MK2R4. I guess there was a change on the 74.5 and above

Gil:

I'm in the market for new floor mats for my 69 B. I'd sure like to know Moss part numbers and prices on this stuff.

I usually buy my Moss parts from my local MG shop and they are very good about returns when required. They also have the experience to know which parts not to order from Moss and often source parts elsewhere, usually the UK.
About once a year I will place a small mail order directly from Moss in order to stay on their mailing list. I just received one of these and was pleased to see it very well packed with the small parts in individual bags, marked with part numbers. One thing I wasn't particularly happy with was the shipping and handling charges, which amounted to about 33% for what was a light and compact order.
More reason to use the local guys.

Cheers,
Rich
