Greetings and Happy Easter to all. Its been a while since I posted here, but I have been lurking.
Decided to fire up the B today... actually I tried last week. Wouldn't start. Figured it was a dead battery, but I couldn't jump start it either.
Since battery appeared to be old, I decided to replace it on principle. Car still wouldn't start. During the process of cleaning the battery connections, the postive lug fell off the wire. That was the problem. I'm still amazed it didn't fall off when I removed it from the battery...
However, while I was cleaning the connections, I decided the original battery wire ends were corroded beyond repair, so I installed new #2 cable. While hooking up the starter end I was doing a little clean up underneath. I noticed that the insulation on the brown wires going to the starter were worn through. And, another group of wires still wrapped in blue tape were worn through. Yep... blue tape AND insulation was worn right off. The only thing saving me was the dirt and grease on the wires. Lucky find! I don't need or want to burn the car to the ground.
I was grumbling when the new battery didn't fix the job, but after finding this potential nightmare I was happy as a P.I.S.
Take care!

Pigs ain't really happy there, they just tolerate it so us humans can reference happy.
Congratulations on catching that problem. We should all spend some quality time under our cars looking for stuff like that.
I was having intermittent starting problems on my 67B. I replaced the cable from the voltage regulator to the generator and it now starts everytime. The cable I replaced had a very corroded connector at the voltage regulator end.
I also had dim headlights and slow blinking dimmly lit tail lamps. I replaced the corroded ends on the wire at the fuse box. It's like a brand new car now!

Melted maybe? When I pulled my car apart for body work, I found a similar situation. That brown wire, along with that whole leg of the harness, was fried; insulation and tape almost completely melted off. I opted to replace the whole harness. Loose connection to the starter?
