Been out of town sorry not to have responded sooner. Maybe I am asking too much from this engine. After many years of rebuild kits, contending with worn-out rocker arm shafts and loose distributors I finely did it right. Rebuilt from the top to the bottom, the engine is like new so I want it to run new. It is running good now I suppose I just need to keep tweaking the darn thing. I know this story fits almost all that visit this site. About the ZS, I know there “may†be better options out there, but to me if you get the ZS performing right they are hard to beat, and I’m just a little to nostalgic, in 1964 I was a mechanic at Wayne Jones MG Imports Dealership in Miami Florida. To bad I forgot so much since then. Oh well aging is a bitch. Thanks everyone for all the help so far, I am sure I will need more before this project is complete.

Hey, a good running ZS isn't a power boss but its reliable & smooth....check out the JDW tech tips on my web site for eliminating all the wive's tales about ZS's....no, it won't outperform a Weber or a pair of SU's...but it'll run forever & get better gas mileage (if you care about such a thing)
....believe me, I've got almost 100,000 on a ZS that's only been removed twice for cleaning/rebuild! &, all the smog crap is still attached & working!

My old '70 Volvo had a pair of ZSs on it and was 15 years old with 'way over 100,000 miles when I traded it. I put one pair of diaphrams in the carbs, one time, that's all, they worked great the whole time. I would have gone with dual carbs on my Bea if I could have done it with ZSs like that old car had.
