MGB: Spare keys.

For the last year, since buying Big red from Chris, I have been saying "I must get a set of spare keys cut". Yesterday I got in and the carpet was all screwed up in the footwell, so I removed it and laid it out flat. This was in the sun so that it would smooth out.

Drove to work (OK it's only about 1 mile). Drove to the shops (2 miles) at lunch and then back home. Went to drive back to work and noticed a shiney gleam in the drivers footwell. I bent down and picked - yes you've guessed. A set of spare keys.

Thinking back I rather vaguely recall Chris might have mentioned them the day I picked the car up.

When you retire come to Ark. There is a diamond mine where you can hunt and keep what you find!!!

When I bought my 1959 TR3, new, I vaguely remembered the salesman saying that the spare key was inside of the liscense plate lamp housing. Dumb idea as it turned out. On my way back to Louisiana, from Houston, and late at night, a bump in the road bounced the key up against the lamp hot wire and almost set me on fire. The car was one day old and I had to replace some wiring. No fuse of course, just like the MG's. I didn't figure all of this out until later. (How about $2600, new!!)

Wow! I need to get some extra keys cut for my cars too! I'm going to put them under the driver's carpet.

I've had several that had an ignition key screwed to the inner fender liner by the fuse block.

My dad used to hide his in the outside air channel in his air filter housings (outside the air filter). I wonder how many next owners or mechanics marvelled at that after he got rid of his cars?
