MGB: Spent the day with MG

Spent the day going through the new mg and replaced all rubber hoses that looked suspect and just needed replaced. Found a cracked hose to the carbon canister, replaced and seemed to run better. Also checked all brakes and lines all seemed good . With my check I did find a leaky rear shock . but other than that couldnt find to much wrong. Greased all zerks that I found in front.. DPO said he loved this car but I do not think he greased it for years and the cracked hoses found lead me to believe not...

things that came up

1. found 3 grease zerks on right side front only 2 on left ?
2. could not determine correct place to put jack stands on front , I put them on the cross member that run with the length of car.
3. how to keep grease out of finger nails ?

#3 nitrile gloves will keep grease out from under nails get them at HF

There should be 3 zerks on both king pins. If memory serves me right I think that the 3rd one is on the rear side of the king pin ie towards the boot (sorry, trunk) and the other 2 are on the front bumper side

My experience is that you have to wear mechanic's gloves over plastic gloves, or else they get little holes in them where oil leaks in, whenever you handle anything with an edge or a tip.

I try to keep my nails clean but when I go see my doctor he told me that the first thing he looks for is evidence of grease under my nails. If he finds any he knows I haven't been, "Behaving yourself"

Time for new doctor methinks.

#3 dip fingertips in vasaline or aquaphor, cake it under nails and your good to go

Oh yes, your right the nitrile gloves do get holes in them but the finger tips general don't get any holes and the finger nails stay clean.

Russ is right - the third grease zerk on the drivers side is on the back side toward the boot.
