well i am chugging along on my wifes car, 1970 mgb she got from her father. her father told her about a noise in the back and said it was possilby and axle or something in the rear end. after pulling the axle shafts out and visually inspecting all axle splines i put back together without really finding a problem. i also rr'd the rear brakes and seal. after bleeding i put in reverse and heard a distinct metallic noise. i figured it was the wheel slipping on the hub(wire wheels with the single knock offs) or the the hub itself. after putting the spare on i decided it was infact stripped splines on the wheel.
so my question is while buying a wheel should i replace the one piece hub too? can i replace the hub with used one? or should i just bite the bullet and buy a new hub from moss.
if i can buy used whom do you guys suggest?
i appreciate all help.
tommy
btw the wife took the car for a short spin and loved it. its the first time she has driven the car in over 15 years.

You may not want to hear this, but my advise is to replace all four hubs and wheels. It's isn't cheap to do, but once done you will never have to do it again. Perhaps your grandchildren will though. ;)
For sure the rears need to be changed out and there is false economy to buying used IMHO. I suggest Steve is spot on about all four but AT LEAST THE REARS....they get the brunt of damage due to fast acceleration while the fronts take the impact on hard breaking.
If only one is bad (dbl check others), the axle hub is probably bad also. You can replace one set, wheel and hub
and do the others periodically when funds are available. Make sure you use the same source for both next time.
Better yet, do it in pairs or all four, your choice.
Glad it happened close to home.
