Hi,

i'm looking for stainless wheel rims, not only the rims but the whole outher ring of a wire wheel whitout the holes drilled in to.
I'm working on an v8 wheel to get it right, and will try to use this ring.

How about identifying a manufacturer that makes wire wheels of the type and profile that you need and ask if you can buy some "blanks" before they go into the spoke hole drilling machine.

That might cost something, but in the long run you will not have spent a lot of time hunting for somehting that you are going to have to jury rig to some degree or another anyway.

I'd be curious as to what the alloy of stainless steel you intend on using. Not real sure stainless steel is a good choice for wire wheels. Some of it gets soft and mushy-not what you want to be fastening spoke nipples too.

Hi Peter and welcome her.

The Dunlop V8 composite wheels can be taken apart by drilling the rivets, but try to get new ones before you start to do so. With the rims separated, they can be re-chromed and then fitted to the light alloy centers again.
Don't ask for the cost, if you have it done by a specialized shop!
In this case, it will be cheaper to find a good set of wheels from a Reliant Scimitar GTE, that also fits the B and they are the same brand and design, although they have an different offset (~15 mm) and are 5 1/2" wide.

I had the same issue with the chrome on my V8 wheels and cleaned them, painted the damaged areas of the crome with Hammerite and bought a set of stainless wheel rims (beauty rings) from an old BMW 520 that fits well to the wheels.
Although this solution is not 100% original, but it is my car and I love it since it followed me home, 30 years ago.

Gerry is right, Look at the aircraft industry as an example. Stainless is used for some fasteners and brackets but nothing that is a serious structural part. Heat and cold cycles along with the induced stress of a sportscar wheel may cause cracks in most alloys of stainless. You don't want that to fail on a fast sweeping mountain curve!

I've never seen a stainless steel wire wheel rim. Only steel and aluminum.

For high stress applications, extra Nickel is added to increase strength and make it less brittle. The extra cost, though, is prohibitive. RAY

hey,

mmm maybe stainless is not a good choice, maybe some alloy rims will do the job?

Peter,

staying with the Dunlop design of the V8 wheels will make it difficult to find other rims to fit.
The original V8 wheels are 5J 14 with 22 mm offset, same size as the Rostyles. The bolt pattern is 4.5 /114.3 mm.
Datsun made use of different light alloy wheels that also fit the MGB. Some rwd Mitsubishi had the same pattern and these wheels have also been used on the B, as well as the Austin Montego/Maestro wheels.
Have a look here: http://www.upgrades4mgs.co.uk for further details upon wheels that can be used on the B.
