I have a 77 mgb. The starter works intermittently. I am sure it is either the starter relay or the ignition switch. I can jump the starter relay and it works. How do i tell if it is the starter relay or ignition switch?

Might very well be all three just due to the age. But the likely problem is in the starter relay.... Very common

If you can jump the starter realy and all is ok, replace it first, cheaper.

Use can use any standard automotive relay, $5-10 at any auto parts store, and change in 5 minutes. Start there.

Also, you might try smacking it with a mallet. I did this 10k miles ago and it has worked flawlessly since. I think it was gummed up inside from lack of use.

I found the problem. It was the wire running from the ignition swithch and the starter relay. The wire went through a plug, and a pin had pushed out of the plug.
