The first customer to say they didn't like my straps and didn't even install them yet...
"Russell, I received the straps today, quite dissapointed hardly worth $24. They look like they are made from a trouser belt. I was expecting something a little more heavy duty."
My Response"
Are you serious? I have sold over 500 sets to people around the world and you are the first unsatisfied customer. Trouser belt or not, the material has a tensile strength of 3800lbs. Even if you don't like the way they look, they are far better then any rubber garbage you will buy. I make these personally, by hand, and take great pride in my craftsmanship. I can only tell you to actually put them on the car and tell me when they break. :)
Thank you for your input and I hope you will find what you are looking for.

it's true. i do indeed have a small wooden box in my living room which i use to store all of my old fingernails and toenails.
Welcome to the world of business! :)
Actually, I was wondering what you had come up with now!
oops. i was chatting with natalie portman and i have no idea how my response to her wound up here.
People still say, trouser???
I, as being one of the over 500 satisfied customers x2 say thanks for a great product Rusty...

lol thats what I was thinking.
The customer must be a retiree... the straps were sent to Florida. :P
And here I thought this was a new product announcement! :(
3800 PSI would be just about right.
Keep yer chin up Rusty!
perhaps if you had a photo for potential customers to preview...oh, wait you do.
And here I thought this was a new product announcement! :(

How about Strapping Lad suspenders?
Satisfied customer here! You have nothing to worry about Rusty. Great product.

Rusty it is obvious that you need a way to get over this atrocity. I was thinking half off on your straps for everyone reading this thread! That would take your mind off of the guy in Florida because your spare time would be taken up for the next few days. Seems simple enough to me. What do you say? :) Oh by the way, those are nice straps regardless of the uninformed schmuck in Florida.
Maybe if you could have offered them in Pink, he may have been satisfied with the way they look !
How long to ship an order Rusty? Christmas is coming, and well, I deserve a set of these to go with the poly suspension I am also getting.

i tried to get his mind off of it but he didn't bite.
I'm a satisfied customer too. But, if you came up with a belt buckle logo, I could use a new belt. Size 36 please. Because "I am a strapping lad."

Well the are "hardly worth $24", so I might have to drop the price anyway.
Dave, I usually fill orders on the weekends and send them out the following Monday.
There is always one. Clown!!!!!. Best he buy from Victoria British!!!!!. I will be placing an order very shortly. Do you have RED!!. blue is a little bit uh well!!!.
David
Now you need to start a strapping lad clothing line. Shirts, pants, belts, the whole nine yards. Looks like you'd have a following here.
I need another set. I will get them soon. Why no logos? Had I known that I would have saved the blue ones off the white BGT! Actually, I should have done that anyway....
Rusty !!!! You have hit it !!!!
At 3800 hundred pounds you can safely start making real suspenders for the Boomer crowd and not worry about product liability insurance.
If you can find a way to emblazon car logos and/or other nifty designs on the material you can approach Ralph Lauren and Bean and Moss. The sky is the limit !
Jack
PS: I am only half joking.
I too thought this was a new product announcement for some sort of MG Belt.. (not fan belt).
Rusty, I think you should consider yourself lucky that you've made 500 sales before running across a ______ list this.

Paul...trouser snake....'nuf said. :)
I'll throw in this comment as well - if you had the labels printed up, not only belts and suspenders, but dog collars would be well received... :D
You can't please everybody all the time. Offer him a refund to return the product. He doesn't deserve them! ;)
Hey, I'll gladly pay the idiot postage and take the pair of his hands.
Rusty - I'll be ordering a set very soon!

With a name like "strapping lad", unfortunately he might draw in a clientelle with a unique set of requests (whips, chains, and all that...).
Jeff nailed it Rusty.
After MANY years of dealing with the public I found that the best way to deal with idiots is to just pretend that you are the Pillsbury Doughboy and just stand there taking his remarks until he is exhausted.
Then just smile and say, "What would make you happy, Sir".
IF he responds you can offer to take the stuff back IN ORIGINAL CONDITION and reimburse him for the purchase and the postage upon arrival.
That way you have done the right thing and he has no basis upon which to continue to complain.
Then just move on with your life. Trust me, time is too short to argue with fools.
Jack
Rusty, I've still got a set of the first-gen blue straps on my '73. Definitely a numero uno product.

Ahh... Bob, great minds think alike. I was thinking of a line of 'Strapping Lad Fetish Clothing' for men, women, Triumph owners....
"Trust me, time is too short to argue with fools."

Nope. Not enough time in the day. :D
If we could only harness the power of incoherent, impotent rage, The OT Politics forum could power Cincinnati for a decade.
For whatever it's worth, I had already planned to buy a set when I reach that point in my resto. Ignore that boob, there are hundreds of us who know the merits of your product. No worries. And if you send me a belt, I'll write you an endorsement :)

computerized sewing machines are cheap these days. and we've several folks around here who run computerized embroidery equipment. $5 for a 1c logo. Check around, you could do worse...Jack has an excellent idea!
1st generation blue look good on my Mk1 BRG. Thanks Rusty I can't wait to start wearing them out
I agree with Jack. No matter how good your product, customer service is all that really matters. Cheerfully refund the guy his expense, in return for the product back. I have an aircraft logo applique business, and we have always offered satisfaction guaranteed. The only returns we've had are those two times that we shipped the wrong item.
I've had one complaint in five years with my strut kits.
The buyer had not read the directions.
I offered a refund upon return of the kit...it never came back to me.
Rusty,
I am one of the 500+ satisfied customers and have to say these straps likely saved my life several times on the trip to Breckenridge as I raced such luminaries as Schlemmer, Yingling (not by the way a reference to the the beer from Pennsylvannia), Wyckoff, Hanley, Wood, and others through the perilous Rocky Mountain roads.
Heck! If your straps had been installed on 1960 ~ 1963 Chevrolet Corvairs, Ralph Nader would be an unknown!
I knew I liked you bunch for a reason. Always good for a chuckle! :D
After working in the retail clothing business for 3 years, I have heard it all from
the worst customers. This guy doesn't bother me in the least, but I thought the rest of
you would be just as amused as I was with the "trouser belt" bit. I have always tried
to be as accommodating to customers as possible, even when they decide to go with a
different length after I have sent the first set out. :P
FYI for those who are going to order soon: "You can have any color you like as long as
it's black." When the black is gone, I'll probably go back to blue and look into embroidered
logos as well. I just need to save up some cash to get a trademark for the name.
Just ordered a set - Paypal works great Rusty! Good luck with your business and with school.
OK, I have read all these Post and I have a question.
The straps on my car are in perfect condition. So why - and is there any reason - would I change to these nylon straps right now?
Do not get me wrong, I think Rusty's straps look great and will work fine, but is there any reason I would want to change out what I have for these? Would I gain anything?
How long should the rubber ones last? Is this something that should be replaced during preventive maintenance?
Just curious.
Thanks
I plan on ordering Rusty's straps as my original rubber ones are dry rotted and broke and was wondering about the seat straps and when they would be available as mine broke when I tried to remove them.

Robert, unless yours are broken or in bad shape I'd leave them until something happens. Even if they do break, the car can be driven without them - they just limit the travel of the rear axle over a bump. I would imagine there are a lot of cars on the road that don't even have working straps on them. Probably not a good thing, but true. As far as life - I believe the ones that came off my car 3 years ago were the original straps. There have been some quality issues with some of the new ones, but my Moss straps are still in good shape after three years. If they do break, I'll order from Rusty then.
I ordered from Rusty when the new ones (from VB) broke as I lifted the car to check travel after installation. Those must've been from the bad batch.
I have a set of the original blue ones. :) I ordered them for the GT and will finally get round to fitting them before the end of the year!
Mine are starting to dry rot - small cracks in several places - and appear stretched. Rusty is making a set this weekend!

The reason I started making these was because I ripped 2 sets of straps in less then 6 months. I don't expect
everyone to take off their good straps and use mine, but when the time comes, us MG owners will want
to know the money we are spending is going towards a product that works.
Now if your B was lowered all around, the stock rubber straps would be pretty much useless... and that is where
I come in. I frequently make straps for those who have lowered the rear or like to take the car around the track.
1-2 inches shorter will sure make difference in axle travel when you hit the corners.
This might sound bad but I have yet to put a set on the Midget since I bought her... I know, I know.
I checked them a while back a they look to be the REALLY old style made of thick woven fabric and
NOT RUBBER! Funny how the fabric has held up over the decades.
Rusty,
As you may know, i also sell an MGB product as a side hobby. Out of several hundred sold I have had 2 or 3 complaints. I just issue refunds and move on, there's no way to please everybody.
The satisfaction percentage for your product sounds like it is excellent - you have no worries!
Okay-straps for ?????"
Rebound straps for the rear axle.
I just need to save up some cash to get a trademark for the name."
Rusty, I believe in investing in the future. How much do you expect is the trademark cost? I'll support with a donation toward that, despite your defection to a Midget <grin>. I already as you know have employed a set of the straps, and my local tech, who is Coventry trained and has more that 30 yrs experience was highly impressed with them. That speaks loudly!
