Well I got yesterday afternoon from Summit Point SCCA race weekend with the McConnells, and I think we can say mission accomplished. The elder McConnle took his new GT he built himself and it never even hick-upped all weekend long, I made one fuel mixture adjusntment on it and thats was pretty much it, Fred Sr. addressed a few wiring gauge issues, but it was pretty painless, he just got out there made laps and got his regional comp license, wtg Sr.

Jr., still pretty painless weekend, but a little drama, but not much. The Dorman freeze plug Fred put the rear in weeped a little from the center bolts, and decided to depart the engine block about halfway during Fred's race on Friday, luckily Fred was on top of the gauge, recognized a problem, shut the engine off and parked. We rode into near by Charles Town, and got one of those rubber type freeze plugs, and installed that after a little modification done by Sean (fred's brother in law), who is quickly becoming a very handy fellow to have on the crew. That all worked fine for Sunday's race, Fred had lonely race, 9th overall in group and 4th in class, about 5 seconds off the winnign FP car, which I thought was pregtty darn good for a vintage car, his best lap times were 1:30.3.

Neither car run Monday's race, Sr. had to head back to DC for work, and Jr and I pulled his engine out for me to take back to SC for phase III development. Also Sr. was racing on a Mountjoy performance street engine, he had for some time, so we will also b e getting something for Sr. toghether representing a race engine.

It was neat to see father and son hit the track together.

Summit Point is a neat place, I think the thing I like most about it, is people come out to race track to spectate, camp and enjoy seeing cars road race, something these days we don't always get at the tracks we race at, the DC crowd definately loves their road racing, and that reminds me of the old days at Road Atlanta club racing. The plan is we start the season off next year at the Jefferson 500, so it will be neat to finally be at "The Point" in real vintage race, and see how we fare against our own kind.

I learn to like Summit Point, and for sure when I race again, I'd like to drive the track myself.

I'll post pics later, and I'm sure fred will give a report.
