Hi all,
When I visited a friend who has a MG garage I found a dirty, rusty steering wheel lying in the box which hold all obsolete metals. I took it home, sanded and cleaned the metal and gave the leather a good clean and subsequent polish with black shoe polish. The result was so rewarding that I switched the steering wheel of the MGB GT. Attached are pictures of the "original" wheel (three spokes no holes) and the "new" one (also three spokes but with holes in the metal).
Easy job; took me 15 minutes!

Er, I hate to say this but you fitted it on the wrong side. :D
Looks good.
Cool! Good conversation piece. A one year only, 5 hole 1970 wheel.
Gee, Owen, for a second my heart sunk! Guess the humiliation to find out that you have screwed up something very easy in front of all the experts here..................
Hell Stan, I screw up so often, in so many places I don't care any more
Stan,
it's a plesure of relaxed driving with this original 3-spoke wheels. After a short exercise with the Motolita leather- and wood rim wheels, I also switched back to the original ones some years ago and don't want to change anymore
Looking good, this 1971 wheel with the BeNeLux/Swiss dash.
Ralph
Yes, late 1970 to late 1971 only. No other cars thn the 1971 modell were fitted with this design wheels.
I'm pretty sure 72s had the same wheel. The center piece isn't that of a 70 it's 71 or 72.

Check out the little flag next to Owen's name - he's from the other side of the pond - all the steering wheels on that side are on the right side. :)

Owen I've been telling them that for ages, but they just keep doing it,no wonder they can't tell their offside fron their nearside (sorry david couldn't resist):D
It looks really good.
The holey ones and the leather look really racey.
Paul ;-)
We may put the steering wheels on the wrong side, but we drive on the RIGHT side! :D :D :D
Got the same wheel in my 72'....though it might not be original....my car is a bit of a mutt

True. 72 had the 5-hole steering wheel. Clausager said they changed in mid 72, the 73 had a slotted wheel. But, my 73 (built in '72) also has a 5-hole wheel.
Hi all, I'm new here, living in Ireland and have a '78 mgb roadster, I like the older steering wheel and and wondered does anybody know if these wheels fit the later rubber bumper car with rubber look wheel? I know that if you try to order a motalita wheel from moss there is a different boss for the later model and suspect wheels are not interchangable.
Paul.
