MGB: tachometer needle removal

I need to replace the dial face on my tachometer. I checked the web and couldn't find any source of how to remove the needle. I don't see any set screws holding it in so I gave it a pretty good pull but no luck. Appreciate any ideas.

Thanks,

Larry - put some 1/16" dowels on either side of the needle center, then use two small screwdrivers across the dowels and under the center of the needle and against the shaft that the needle is on to pry up on the needle. You might want to have a helper next to you to watch where the needle flies when it comes loose, it lets go all of a sudden and usually ricochets off the ceiling when it does. If you have the dowels that are serving as fulcrums very close to the needle, it usually doesn't fly so far when it comes off. also look close at the needle, it usually has a sleeve that fits down on the pivot and it is best to get the screwdriver tips under the bottom of that sleeve.

I looked into doing this on my truck. Daves advice is similar to the recommended procedure, except the hot rodders suggested using a dinner fork.

A dinner fork would work, but there is a better chance of bending the shaft. Using a screwdriver on either side of the shaft keep the pressure straight up with no sideways component. By the way, you want to align the screwdrivers along the same plane as the screws that hod the dial in place, that is where the backing strip is.
