the tach has been acting goofy in my 73 ever since I bought the car in DEC. I just got a good deal on a NOS tach still in the box. I tried to install it today and realized it is a early tach with the small loop on the back. I read the Ashley info on the electrical section of this site, that reads this design is actually better than the model that was originally in my car. My questions is: Is there an easy way to wire this up? It looks as though I need an additional male bullet connector and white wire running back to the coil. I now have, coming out of the dash, one white wire with black stripe, two green wires (connected together to one female spade-connector) and three black ground wires which clip to the back of the tach-housing. Thanks in advance for everybody's help (as always!)

Jim, it goes on the back on the tach. The white/black should have a sleeve-looking end on it that will mate up with the connector on the tach. Be gentle when you push it on. I broke the connection inside a brand new tach by pushing too hard. It wasn't hard to fix and has worked fine ever since.

Jeeze, how many of us own 73's? Looks like a bunch.

I don't know if you can. They're wired differently. The 'loop' type uses induction of the wire that goes from the ignition switch to the coil (a direct circuit on the older cars), and the white w/black on your car is just a direct feed from the coil.
You'd have to figure out some way to tap into the wire that feeds the coil without crossing it with anything it shouldn't.

Rob, before you do anything, do you have an electronic ignition? They can make tachs go wonky, but there's a fix. I just have to find it! Time to clean the office. Or the garage. Or both.

I have electronic ignition fitted by a previous owner and the tacho reads about half the correct number of revs so i would like to know what the fix is.

When yoiu say older style, do you mean your NOS piece is 65-67? I have a bunch of used tachs, and would love to work some kind of trade if so. You can contact me off board.
