MGB: Tail lights

A recent thread addressed the switching out of the later tail light assemblies for the home market to gain larger brake light areas. Would it be possible to switch the earlier upper lens on a chrome bumper model for an amber lens ala the home market cars? Anyone ever see this?

Yes, I have seen a few cars running the amber/red combo instead of red/red.

Had that look on the GT I had. I like it better than the red/red.

Yes. I changed my upper turn siginal lens to amber this summer on my 69 B. Got the lenses on e-bay UK for ~ $5.00 each.

Love the look!

I also have the clear running lights with amber turn siginals on the front, also a home market thing.

I could possibly get a better picture of them.

I think I'm going to have to order me a couple of lenses.

I did it on my '67 25 years ago. The car was a one of a kind for many years. At the the time, I had to special order them from England. They weren't legal in NJ at the time, but the laws eventually were changed. They have held up quite well over the years. RAY

James, that car looks so much better with the steel wheels instead of the Superlites. :)

I think I have a couple of them in a box somewhere. Not new by far, but still presentable. First one can have 'em for free! Don't know about transportation costs to the USA though.....

Shipping could be $35-$40 US, but still a good deal.

Oz laws require amber.

That is why yank imports over here had to have the red flashers disconnected and usually
accessory amber lights fitted,

What was that model around the late 50/s with a huge horizontal fin, a chevvy belair or sumthin'.

They hung a bullet amber flasher under the fin over here to legal it..

Early mustangs had amber lights in the reverse lights as flashers.

We did have one model holden about '57 , the FE model with a red flasher but none other .

I seem to recollect it was because they thought the red flashing light from a distance could be mistaken for a fire engine in the days when they only had red flashing lights.

Upon checking, it was the 59 belair.

While googling, this was interesting...

Victoria British has them. $14.95 USD P/N 0-997 for a 1962-69 car.I am looking at a Fall 2008 catalog, though.
