Everybody in the south knows what cotton chopping is but most in the north have no idea. Here is a 19 year old Texas cotton chopper at work. Look closely at the plants he is working in this photo and read the caption.

Ha ha. Oh to be a 19 year old pilot, and indignant. "You want lower old man? I'll give you lower."
Bob
I like that John. Thanks. Went to the main menu and looked around a bit. Huge number of pics of all kinds of aircraft. Many years ago I watched a guy in southern Ontario land an Ag-Cat in a field of mature timothy. Memorable.
guess he was knocking the boll weevil off the plants....
Thanks John! My job in HS was washing the 'dusters' at local airport. Probably a hazmat job now. Got a ride one time (thank gosh the folks never knew) in 'flying boxcar' conversion spraying grasshoppers. That prop jockey was flying sideways up arroyos I swear weren't 50 feet from the wing tip. 'course the womens panties on a flag pole out his side window allowed him to call himself a "flag ship". The head was stencilled '2 U.S. Gals' and beneath that was hand written "are better than one". Those boys always impressed me one way or the other!
There are over 1700 photos on that site and I've been trying to get through them all for the last 4 or 5 evenings.
I damn near got my head knocked off by the wheel of a spraying J-3 Cub while gawking at it coming up through a field when I was 15. It took a little bit for me to realize he was going to fly under a low REA power line I was standing under before crossing the road behind me.
Some time when I feel like typing a lot I'll tell you about Mr. Potato Head, a nutzo ag pilot I once knew. Remember Captain Lou Albino the wrestler? This guy was built about like him but with a bigger head and less smarts in it than Lou had.
Excellent.
The only practical civilian flying that really appeals to me is crop dusting. Just looks like a blast. And I have watched Texas crop dusters flying under power lines near Corpus.
The Marine aviators I knew called power lines "dental floss."
I've known several crop dusters in my life, they're certainly a different breed!
This is an ag valley and crop dusters - mostly spraying potato fields - are fearless!
this was taken by someone in our plant in columbia, sc
Darryl, I'm glad that 18-wheeler was not 3 seconds sooner coming down the road...
I've got to come back to this and look some more. Thanks JD
