MGB: TFMMGB74 Look Here!! Severe Engine Knock after oil change

Your question was put in the middle of another post so I'm putting this here to try to get you some help.

You wrote

Quote; Anyone know of why I suddenly am having a severe knock from my engine, and now I can't turn it over? Recent oil change, level fine. I have a 74 rb mgb. Thanks

I say;
When severe knock and oil change are mentioned at the same time I have to wonder about the oil filter used. Too short of a filter will result in low/no oil pressure/oil supply so, what filter did you use? By the way, "...severe knock, and now I can't turn it over..." is usually really bad news. Note, if you payed a "professional" for the oil change and they used the wrong oil filter, they may owe you a motor...good luck with that of course.

You may want to start a "new topic", under your name, to keep track of any help offered.
Good Luck!

Mind readers may come in a bit later.

But I need more info.

Who changed oil?
What oil was used?
How long ago?
What did the knock sound like and when did it happen?
What was the oil pressure gauge saying before this happened and when it happened?
Did the engine seize when running?

etc etc.

Used 10w40 castrol and did service myself about 1 month before knocking began before that engine appeared to run fine. knock was pretty loud and lasted approx 10 miles or 15 min till i parked it. when i tried to restart it would crank and knock but not turn over. the oil pressure was within normal limits before during and after incident.

What make/model filter did you use?

Your original question implies immediatelly after changing oil ,which may be a bit misleading. "about 1 month before knocking began " How many miles in that month, how many before that oil change?

Some of the Auto Parts store cross reference to another oil filters. And some of the catalogs are wrong! Always look at the oil filter you have taken off and compare it to the old one Here is a good video form a local British car mechanic...

Well. if you continued to drive for 10 miles with a loud knock, you suffer the consequences.
