Had my family go semiballistic on me. Background: Wife still gainfully employed and can't get near the time off my retirement allows me.
She does get thanksgiving and day after off, but has volunteered to go out of town and prepare dinner for her sisters family. I like her
sister fine, but if I'm gonna hang with sisters, I prefer mine. The problem: my sis is having large dinner for my family. 1500 miles to northern Wyoming. I want to drive to Grand Junction, Colo. and follow my brother north. So after inviting myself I announced I would like to make it a trip in the GT. Man! you'ld think I turned a squirrel loose in church!! Nobody thinks this old bloke should be turned loose on a near 4,000
mile round trip in a 38 year old car at this time of year. Okay, I got it, a little disappointed, but...! I can still go, but have to take my son and drive the 4-wheel drive. Well, heck. Will just go via Moab, Utah and see Arches and Canyonlands national parks, maybe rent a jeep there and see what progresses! Leaving in a couple of days. If not heard from in week or three send beer via the Anasasi cliff dwellers.

If you go to Moab don't miss the drive from Cisco to Moab on HWY 128 and Dead Horse point, Arches is right between them.
I'll certainly feel better about you being in Wyoming this time of year in a 4X4, the weather can go form good to worse in a day. A week or two ago I-80 was closed down because of snow between Cheyenne and Laramie. a year ago that same time I drove across the state on I-80 with not even any wind and it was too warm for wearing a coat.
Just check the forecast before yo leave Jim. They are pretty good anymore. If it's got snow in the route take the 4x4. If not take the MG. Its a little slower to take the river route JD suggests but a hell of a lot more sienic. Either way watch the shade as the ice don't melt. In the low teens here tonight. If I was you I'd take 80 straight to Wyoming and meet Don on the way. Cut two days off your travel there and back. But if you insist on coming through town bring your gloves and I'll let you sand on the TD. If you do a good job I'll let you have a piece of the wifes pecan pie (to die for).
If you haven't been before, you'll love the Moab area. Was out there a couple of months ago, awesome!
