Hey there,

Real quick like... I dove into fixing the leak coming from the diff into the brakes. I bought new pads, new rubber parts for the wheel cylinder, and all the parts for the hub (gasket, oil seal, wheel bearing, o ring)

Really only 2 questions... I assumed when I read "Lubricate the bearing before install" I could use an "all purpose" grease??? Not some specific 40 year old method?

And, can someone verify I'm on the right track with the brake set up? I've been staring at the manual, and I think I have it right... but this is my first stab.

Thanks in advance!

PS. Brakleen works wonders!

All purpose bearing grease will work fine. All you have to do is grease it up for install. After that, lube frm the diff takes care of the lubrication.

Brakes look right to me... Is this the right rear?

looks like left rear, and I'd use a little gear lube on that bearing rather than grease. A little oil on the lip of the seal is a good idea when re-fitting the hub too. Getting the new seal into the hub can be a challenge if you don't have an installation tool or a large enough socket to drift it in, but it's doable.
Once you have the hub on, nut installed and tight, and the lock tab bent over one of the flats, make sure the hub flange is dry and apply a little gasket seal to it. Install the "O" ring with a little RTV silicone and then place the paper flange gasket on the hub. A little more gasket sealer on the gasket and install the axle shaft. I think I got all that right...............it's from memory, not the book:eyeroll: You should be leak free and good to go.

Awesome! Thanks for the tips. And yes... it is the left rear. I should have mentioned that.

The oil seal that sits in the hub... does that need to be fully "mashed" into its seat, or is the lip of the seal supposed to hang over and make contact with the bearing?

Nope, the lip of the seal rides on the end of the axle tube to stop oil exiting all over your brakes. Simply drift the seal into the hub until it just "bottoms out". Ensure that it is bottomed out evenly all round so that the seal runs square on the axle when the hub is re-installed.
The lip of the seal rides on the end of the axle tube and oil will bathe the bearing once the car is level again and the diff filled to the level hole.
