My stepdaughter shows up this afternoon and says the water pump is out on her car. Her boyfriend didn't want to work on it and I figured out why. the **** thing is on the back of the engine and the best way to get to it is from the bottom, although I can't get all of the bolts from there, so I have to disect the top of the engine to get to the last one. I gotta drop the exhaust to get my hands up in there. wish me luck, it might be easier to just buy her a new car

Sometimes it's better to pay someone who knows what their doing. It's not worth the frustration. One of my sons had a water pump go out on a mid engine Jap car. I took it to a guy that worked on them. He charged me $100 to replace it. That was $100 well spent.

if I knew where I could get it done for $100, I'd pay it. more than that the car is not worth

Chuck,

When I first met Jo she had a Dodge Caravan and shortly after the water pumpwent out. To replace it ment -

Jack engine up and remove rf engine mount ( this menas remove rf wheel, splasi guard and sump tray too).

Remove timng belt and serpentine belt.

Remove timing chain cover

Remove crankshaft (the book says without disturbing timing position)

Remove and replace water pump.

Re-assemble engine in reverse order ( I think this ment swear in all the same places as you did in dis-assembling)

My theory is they make it like this so we cannot fix things and the mechanics (hopefully the factory ones) can make extra money.

Yet another reason not to swap out for a V6 or V8.

Not that way on my Sprite, Evan! Starter's right out there where you can get to it. Now, it could be that your friend thought the engine WAS the starter! The engine's not very big, after all. AL Bradley
