I still can't believe the quick, topical and accurate responses that one gets from this board! If ever any of you happen to be in East Texas for any reason and happen to be without a B, drop me a line and I'll let you take my GT down "my" special twisty farm roads to get your fix. Seriously, I owe all you guys at least a beer or two for the help I've gotten here.
I've removed and plugged my gulp valve and I'm still backfiring, so I've decided to enroll my B in a detox program. Goodbye air pump, goodbye gulp valve, air rail and all that other stuff. Maybe she'll run more like an MG should without all of that power-sapping emissions junk. But it gets really hot here and my AC works and is in good shape, so I was wondering if any of you happened to have removed your air pump but kept the compressor on and if so, which size belt was used? I'm sure that I can find one that would work but would that screw up the roataional speed of my compressor any? I'd be willing to gut my air pump and use it as an idler pully if I have to, or maybe just run it disconnected from everything.
On the subject of my "factory" air, was it really put in at Abingdon or was it dealer installed? It looks pretty well integrated into the car but you can tell that the AC vents inside were an add on.
I was just wondering. Oh, i got my Sony CD player installed in my B. It sticks out about 1.5" and I couldn't use a mounting bracket without cutting on my car, but it's in good and doesnt bounce around or skip at all. For speakers, Wal-Mart sells a $20 set of speakers, twin 6.5" with 2 horn tweeters in a nice compact carped box that fits nicely on my back shelf, with both speakers firing neatly between the front seats. Suprisingly, they don't sound bad for the price but I put my expensive pair of Eclipse 6.5" coax speakers in the box. The box really does look good, like it's one of those high quality dual subwoofer boxes but on a scale that fits in my back seat. It's 28" wide by 9" high by 6.75" deep. If you can find one of these in your local wal-mart, it's worth the $20 just foe the box. It's a Roadmaster RTS 3000 system. It's loud enough to clearly hear going 80 down the road at WOT with all my windows open. Oh, It's a 35 by 4 watt head unit, bridged into 2 channels. I know that isn't recommended but this stereo was doing it in my Civic for 2 years without a problem and still going strong.
My poor Honda, sitting there with an empty radio bay and no speakers, watching me baby this new, older British car after 150000 miles of trouble free service. And I repay her by taking her stereo and putting it in another car? If cars could only talk!!
