Help please;
I have just gone through an exhaustive search to track down my ignition problems. Have checked and replaced almost everything. Today I managed to get it to start but the motor was racing at about 1600rpm and somewhat rough. To get here I set the timing at TDC with the distributer ready on plug #1. It was necessary to manually swing the distributer and eventuall I got lucky. Now I want to set it more precisely.

Step 1: Get youself a maintainance manual, they are very useful.
As to your question, I believe a '75 calls for about 20 degrees of advance at 1000 rpm, dynamically timed with a timing light.

Off the top of my head, I thought it was 5° BTDC, (vac advance disconnected) at 1500rpm. But 20° works best at idle w/vac adv. connected, this is what I use.
