MGB: tires

I need tires on my 63 this weekend.

Any opinion on:

Bridgestone Potenza RE 92
Sumitomo HTR-H4
Yokohoma Avid.

I want inexpensive and do not care about mileage as I only drive 3,000 miles per year so they will rot before they wear out.

I like my Michelin Hydro edge. Made in the good ole U S A.

That's the one you want.

I like my Bridgestones on the B, just bought some Kumhos on the BMW, Michelien on the Olds, and Pirelli on the SAAB.

I do not think it is worth fussing over.

Tire Rack has some useful comparison charts.

I have Sumitomos on my GT and Uniroyals on my roadster, the Uniroyals out-perform the Sumitomos in every way - especially in the wet, the Sumitomos break loose way earlier than the Uniroyals.

Mounting on 4.5" wire wheels is a 185-65-14 ok or should I go with 175-70-14?

read the latest moss motoring magazine,it covers the subject well.
includes the trade off of oversize tires.

be sure to check the tire manufacture date before you buy....it's absolutely possible to buy new tires that are several years old......having been warehoused for excessive periods of time.

I've read that those Sumitomos wear out very quickly. I am running V rated Michelins now.

At 3k a year the tires will age out way before they wear out. If you are not going to be driving aggresively, you might want to lean towards the 175 for somewhat better touring comfort.

Wiz, what model Uniroyals?

Not one of your three choices, but here is what I just ordered from Tirerack.com at a 70,000 mile rating:

4 175/70TR-14 General Altimax RT In Stock $45.00 ea. $180.00 total

Shipping was cheap and there is a $50.00 Visa rebate. Ratings and specs also looked good. Can't beat the price, and they gotta be better than the worn out Mastercrafts I have on now.

They'll be here Monday!

Just for reference, I just had the Kumho Powerstar 758s installed on my B
175/70-14 and basically,,, I hate them. they were cheap though. Should have gotten the above mentioned Sumitomos.
