Well, last monday, I went to Soddy-Daisy and picked up my 5 speed kit. Met Gail and a guy whose name has escaped me. There was a nice metallic brown RB in the shop that had had the conversion done years back, I can't now remember what he said he was doing to it now. I didnt' take any pictures. I grabbed the old digital camera that I hadn't used in a couple of years assuming it was healthy, but found out on the way it was pretty much dead. Disappointing, its only 5 years old, and a Nikon.
Came home to find the modem on my computer had also died, and this is the first chance I've gotten to post about my trip. Sadly, I can't remember any of the clever insights I might have posted last week.
I decided to buy one of those new high torque starters so I don't have to do as much (any?) grinding to make the kit fit. That and I still use the 34 year old original starter that's probably ready for retirement. I found this guy:

He seems to be the cheapest source, I was wondering if anyone has ordered from him and would recommend him.
thanks all

you may find, as I did, that the hi torque starter won't fit the way you expect it to. I had to mount mine "upside down"--that is with the cable connections on top.

This makes for illuminating moments when the distributor cap clip falls down and hits the power lead.

I cut a piece of foam rubber fender cover (piece of inner tube would do as well) and zip tied it on the starter to protect the hot connection until I can come up with a better idea.

You probably met Will. I belive that is Gail's son and the mechanical brains of the operation. I used a regular starter and trimmed the front as per their instructions.

Well, I have this mental image, but sadly no picture, of the RB MG that was in the garage there, it had one of the new starters and it looked nice and tidy, as I recall. I suppose I could be suffering from that "oh, he's got one of THOSE and I DON'T!" syndrome I get when it comes to my car...

Walter, IMHO that's a recipe for excessive expense and a never ending project. I really had to rein in those feelings at about $25k (or be in divorce court).

Cheers.
