Howdy!
How hot should the transmission get? I was fiddling with my speedometer cable today trying to get it to work, and the casing of my transmission was still relatively hot, and this was after sitting for about an hour. It didn't burn my hand, but it was fairly uncomfortable after a couple of seconds.
Should it get that hot? Do I need to fix anything?
Thanks,
Trent

If it's shifting ok, and not making any noise then you don't have problems. You might check the oil level.
They get Very hot, differentials do to. I've seen trailer truck tractors bobtailing in the rain and when they stop steam comes off the differentials. They all have pyrometers on the transmission and both differentials to monotor temps while pulling loads.
pyrometer? thermometer for really hot stuff?
sounds like something in a blast furance
You pegged it John. Motor oil, transmissions, and differentials run hotter than engine coolant.
It went a lot easier than I would have imagined. This was the first time I had ever attempted anything like this. After putting everything back together and charging up the battery, it started right up!

Cool! I was almost scared to turn the key on after I put new head gaskets on my Range Rover. Much more complex than the "B", but it cranked right up! Great feeling!
