Good day to all,

I have purchased a od transmission and i have to arrange transport from BC to Montreal. I am shopping arround for a transport company but the same question keeps on being repeted. How much does it weigh... Does anybody know the weight of an OD transmission?

Thanks

PS. Anybody know of a good transport company the transmission is ready to go and straped on a skid.

I weighed a transmission recently at about 90 pounds, and it was not an overdrive transmission.

90 pounds sounds heavy. Only because I just moved five of them in my garage to drain the oil, label them, etc. and my back did not hurt the next day :)

Greyhound works great. I've shipped some doors to Northern Ontario and a rad to Edmonton. Both cases, parts arrived within a week.

Don't know if they do pickup as I've always taken the parts to them.

I bought an overdrive transmission a couple years ago and had it shipped by UPS and it was under 100 lb, I'm quite sure it was between 80 and 90.

Better hope it's under 75lbs from what I read here:-

http://www.shipgreyhound.ca/en/faq/#packages_1

Q - What are your package weight and size restrictions?
A - The maximum weight per package is 100 pounds. EXCEPT for Ontario and East locations maximum seventy-five (75) lbs. The extreme measurements of length, width, and height shall not exceed 24" x 40" x 84".

Got a quote from SameDay at $ 106.00, i told them total weight 120 lbs with the 4X4 skid.

I guess 75 Ontario pounds equals 100 West pounds. Who'd have thought there'd be this segregation (sp?) across this great land of ours?

I shipped one by DHL recently at 133 lbs. Now, this was in a home-made bullet-proof multi-layer cardboard box with styrofoam block packing, not a bubblewrap and tarp chucked on a greyhound, so the packing contributed a bit to the total. Just by heft, I would guess ~90#.
