its a 65 chassis with a 72 shell according to the listing.
Which makes it a '72 with (probably) a '65 engine and VIN plate - and apparently not much else.
It's a mix matched car. Those trophies must be from local High School parking lot shows with clueless judges.
It has the later cylinder head, as it has the the air tube holes pluged and the inner fenders look like they are painted silver.
John
65 would have a steel dash....
Nice car and I wish I had a factory hardtop like that...but....
It certainly is not a 65.
Recent engine work to replace seals and pan gasket,,makes me think "hand grenade"
considering claimed very low milage on rebuild..
No Vacuum advance on that distributor, must run like a slug.
Is that pipe insulation on the radiator wall?
Later head you say? But no smog pump bracket.
What's with the bolt for the generator? its like 4 inches too long.
Fan's wrong.
Radiator is wrong.
Does it say Looney Tunes on the valve cover?
I wonder what you search for on ebay to come up with that trophy collection.
Looks like a nice car to me. If the tub is as good as he says, I doubt you could build it for 10 grand much less where it's at now. And he does clearly state it is a 72 tub. He also states they used the best from two cars to build it. It is considered what ever the VIN# and the title says.
BTW,
Vac advance doesn't do a thing at WOT
Smog pump brkt is on the thermostat hsg. not head
Probably used the Gen brkt off the 65 but mounted an alternator.
I would ditch that old steel fan too just waiting for a blade to fly through the hood.
A solid chrome bumper car, very presentable, well sorted with OD, A factory hardtop and extra autocross rims & tires. I don't know what the reserve is but the $8500 bid would be a steal IMO. Of course you guys could nit pick my car all day too. :D
I agree, it's a 72 with a 65 engine. I suspect the 65 had a clear title and the 72 didn't, so that's why they call it a "65". Unless 65s are worth more than 72s, that could be another reason.
Heck Jim
I nit pick my car all day the time!
Vac advance does things at WOT between mechanical and vac you end up running almost 60* BTDC. pull vac off that and you are at 45* and things are subdued. Also WOT is not how you drive 90% of the time unless you spend your time on the 1/4 mile track which this car isn't set up for.
I am just being picky.... and I know the air pump bracket is on the therm housing...
If you like it go get it. If it runs and passes safety I'll be the first to say, it is a lot shinier than mine!
