I received my under hood padding set from MacGreggors this week . The instructions say to remove the hood to make it easier to fit and glue the new pad on. It seems to me that it would be more work to do that than to simply glue it on in place.
Any comments?

Thanks very much

When I put hood padding on I used 3M super trim adhesive and the help of my brother. All you need is to place it on there straight after the adhesive has been applied according to instructions on the spray can or whatever you're going to use. You don't need to remove the hood. That would be more work.

whatever you decide. Use a good bit of glue. Too little glue and it will fall off. Like Bill, I used the 3M super trim adhesive.

I used some stuff called Aero Tac II by Zep manufacturing. It was contact cement, that you sprayed on both surfaces, but it would allow you to do some repositioning.

I put mine on with the hood in place - its been on a year now with no sign of turning loose.

I undid the bonnet (hood) strut, tied a rope from the hood latch to the rear bumper and made the hood stand as vertical as possible.

That way, I took out some of the
horizontal, hanging vector of the pad while the glue was drying.

(I haven't done it yet but I'm guessing it takes three people to properly remove and replace the steel hood.)

I used the 3M super trim adhesive also. Padding has been tight for at least
5+ years.
Didn't take the hood off. Just took my time trimming and re-trimming with a razor
blade.
My 77B was burnt. Fuel line leak. OH Painted exterior. Padding covered the black.
Kevin in NC. Got the parts Wed. Workin on her tomorrow.

Brian,
If you don't mind me asking - how much was the hood padding from McGregors?

Part of the reason the instructions suggest hood removal, (and no I don't either) is that in addition to having a nice gravity clamp on the pad, you won't have issues with applying the glue!
Sometimes the 3-M cans can go wonky and shoot a straight high-powered stream rather than a fan. This then hits the hood and ricochets everywhere! it is very ugly.
So, plan accordlingly with drop cloths etc., or remove the hood (I said that? Mr. "Don't break the paint?").
Good luck!

Brian,

Green Valley is roughly 25 km east of Cornwall (just north of the 401) & 75 km. SE of Ottawa.

Its tiny so it doesn't show on a map.

Where are you ?

I've done hoods all by myself, but with a few tricks. I place a heavy rag doubled up under each rear corner of the hood to prevent damage to the paint. Also, in addition to the stock support, an adjustable one on the opposite side from the stock one (or a stick the appropriate length) it essential to make the job relatively fool proof.
