Well glad to report that things are moving ahead... The chassis is totaly dismantled and with the aid of a Plasma cutter all the rot has been removed ....The inside of the Chassis was in remarkable condition, with much of the Metal being like new.. Found two 1ft (30 CM's ) of wool/wood pulp type sound deadner inside the chassis .......these have been removed...

Also been working on the Tub and have removed the half round panel behind the Grille... The "A" has had a Crash sometime in the past and has had a large section of front end and side replaced ( the area that runs up from the grille to the MGA air vent) ..

The Replacement Half round pannel seems to be a bit large ( can anyone give me some sizes please ), also the Tub has two TOP HAT channels that run along side the edge of the Bonnet opening..these appear not to be welded not the Tub for the last 8" ( 200mm) is this correct.

More pics to follow ..

You Can Just see the join/overlap joint ..next to the Metal cutters ...

Some work is needed on the whole front end to get it back into shape ..

when the New Half round section is fitted the cutout for the Starting handle does not meet ( this has been cut in two ), we know that with a little more fiddling things will come together.. the whole front end is flexable at the mo... but with so many bodged repairs we need some more info please

any pics , sizes and in guidance would be appreciated..

Any demensions of the CROSS PLATE that takes the bonnet locking system woul also be of use ..as mine was so badly bent i cant figure out any real sizes..

Hi Ken,
The top hat section should be tight against the tub, and welded. There is a "flap" of metal that sticks out past the end of the "top hat" rail and is welded close the the grill opening. If you are a little more specific about measurements, I would be happy to get them for you.

The brackets for the 4" hoses should be straight, yours appear bent or curved. You can see where mine were separated from the rail after a front end collision.
Let me know if you need more pics.

Bruce, your a star... Have been working on the Tub again today... Removed the support for one of the 4" hoses as it was so damaged it was throwing out the Nose , Pop rivied the TOP HAT to the Tub... and removed a section of the front Nose as it was also damaged and throwing out the whole front end...
The half round Plate now fits better ( see pic below, next post )...
Im back at the garage tomorrow and will try and deal with some other issues.. but will need to get some new patch panels ..

My flange for the valance is new so it's not a good reference. But here's a couple of pics, I hope will help.
The 16 3/4 " is to the inner fender from the Centre Line of the bonnet catch hole and 14 1/2" from the C.L. to the bend in the flange

ThanX Mate, Spent the day fighting with other things but ..Productive all in all.

Just a Note ..the bonnet catch holes in yours are round and ...and another shape that i cannot remember how to describe ...Antibiotic Pill Shaped :eyeroll:..
Mine are more rounded of squares.... Mines a 56 ...and yours a 58.. a small observation..

again thanX.
