MGB: Update On Blue Devil Repair ( With Picture )

Just wanted to share an update with you on the repair ( 5 times ) a shop did on our family car for a coolant leak and the last time they used a " miracle mechanic in the can " snake oil fix called "Blue Devil" . Of course it didn't work and we've sunk almost $2K on this one problem in the last three weeks. Hubby said last night he was going to tear into it today and find out exactly where the leak was originating from. He did ( with my help of course ) . Seems as if the garage owner and mechanic didn't know how to tighten up a bolt and also left an "O-Ring" off the tubing on the underside of the intake manifold. When hubby confronted the garage owner the other day he said "it's going to cost big dollars this time because it has to be the head gasket". Needless to say we will never use their services again.

A picture is worth a thousand words sometimes ( picture is of the manifold upside down ) --- here ya go:

I think your money should be returned. You paid them to fix the problem. They did everything EXCEPT fix the problem...and then, you had to go through and do the labor/pay for the parts in the end. Yup...I think that garage owner should return all (or most) of the money you paid.

I tend to lean towards Anthony on this one. If the garage improperly reassembled the parts, its on them. Period. If it was a secondary failure after the first failure then the issue becomes a little cloudier. But from your description, it sounds like it is the mechanics fault for not reassembling the pieces correct.

That's just not right! I'm also in agreement with Anthony & Lee as a first step. Sorry but I have a business and become very concerned when something is not done correctly. It sounds like he could give a rats ass about his customers Especially since he is putting snake oil in the car
Dont know any good mechanics doing that to solve problems. If the 1st option does not work I would then go to the BBB and take him to small claims court
I've been in business for 28 years and never ever had anyone even come close to court always took care of any issues.
Just can't understand some people in business. they need you to survive.

Sorry to here this but good luck

Little more update -- Just after posting the picture the hubby and I drove to the shop with the manifold to show the owner. He closed early today -- never has before but he did today. We called Advance Auto and they had the gasket and o-ring and we picked that up a few moments ago. In the morning we'll clean everything up and put it all back together. I still can't believe this happened -- It's a sad world when someone pulls a trick like that :(

PS: Thanks for letting me rant :)

The shop I worked in and the one I was service manager for would have licked that calf again and never said a word to our customer about the problem before they ever got the car back. leaving out an o-ring like that would leak like pouring piss out of a boot with a quick pressure check.
