[color=#000099]To my shipmates, friends and family members who have served in America's Armed Forces (and my new MG comrades as well!):
Like so many others, I'd like to take this opportunity to pass along my best regards on this Veteran's Day. To those who served before me, I thank you for giving me the opportunity to be born and raised in a free country. I studied about the wars you fought and the sacrifices you made. Your service was an inspiration to me in my youth, and molded the Patriot's Heart that beats in my chest to this day. It was an honor to follow you as a member of our nation's armed forces. I'll never forget you or what you did for our country.
To those great officers and men I had the fortune of serving with during my 12 years of active duty in the greatest submarine force the world has ever seen - my shipmates, my brothers - I want to say thanks for your service. I am grateful you "had my back", and trusted me to watch your backs as well. I miss the good times we had in our youth, sailing together and sharing adventures in all those Liberty Ports. I miss you guys and think of you often. I am a better man for having known you. You will always be a part of who I am. The USS Sam Rayburn, USS Nautilus, USS Batfish, USS Greenling and the USS Pittsburgh live on inside us. I'm proud of that and I'm proud to have known you all.
To those who have served after my time, and who are still serving, I thank you for being able to raise our families and work and live in the same free country I grew up in. America's Freedom is a torch that was handed down through each generation, and now it is in very brave and capable hands. I look forward to enjoying this freedom as I pass through my middle-age years and on into retirement age (Lord willing, of course). I am proud of those young heroes who are fighting for our great country at this time. Be safe and hurry home when your mission is finally accomplished.
America is the greatest nation the world has ever seen because her Veterans made it so. Thank you all for your service. May God bless you and your families, and may God continue to Bless America, the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Bravo Zulu......
Very Respectfully,
Forever in your debt -
Forever watching your back -
ICCS(SS) Lou Allocco, USN

Lou,
When were you on the Greenling? If I recall, a former XO of mine became CO Greenling in 73 or so. His name was Bob Bovey. I also seem to remember something about Greenling exceeding test depth sometime in that era.

Whoa.... that was a wee bit before my time - I was on her from 89-92. I made Chief on her, qualified DOOW and also finished my ACOB quals - great boat. I left just a couple months before her decomm. Yes indeed! She had a grand ole history of being a deep-diving boat!! We (ahem) slightly exceeded TD once when I was aboard.... BUT!..... we DID hold a deep dive certification for all the years I was on board - we managed to successfully open outer tube doors at TD.... without breaking anything or suffering a scram..... hot stuff man!! haha!!! The best part was, as old and clankety as a good ole 594 class boat she was, it was still the best time of my life..... I miss that boat and the crew I served with......
Thanks
