Wall collapse at football game

A stadium wall collapsed at the Union HS stadium here in the upstate. Nearly 30 kids hurt, about a dozen to the hospital. It appears there are no serious injuries.

We used to live in fear of that at the U of SC stadium that for years had an upper deck addition that swayed violently during the games. Thousands sat in that concrete tee upper deck, that reportedly swayed up and down as much as 2 feet. Stupid students used to jump up and down to make it sway. In spite of several engineering studies that proclaimed the stadium was safe, it was eventually reinforced.

Wow.. glad to hear no one seriously injured.. I remember that swaying upper deck at Williams Bryce.. I remember thinking then " this is nuts!" but I stayed there watching the game anyway..

Pictures in the news today showed that the wall was a low one that separated the stands from the field - the kids only fell about six feet and the wall must have been three feet higher than the front deck where the kids were standing, leaning against the wall. It appears there was no reinforcing in the wall - just simple concrete blocks held together with nothing but the mortar joint. NOT a very smart design.

Dave seems that wall wasn't the only thing that colapsed in a S.C. football game this weekend. HAH! GO GATORS!!!!

LOL... I went to school at USC but my real team is Kentucky!!! It's basketball season baby!!!!!

I remember those stands at Williams Bryce, they were scary.
