Phil,
I think it was Tony that wanted the TC. However, having learned a lot by reading his post and webpage, I predict that if he's interested, he'll offer the guy $1200 and end up getting it for a whole lot less than any of we lesser mortals.
Ed
I've seen Tony in action. His big secret is he is ALWAYS willing to walk away. He never, ever gets a case of "gotta have", which is why most of us, especially me, pay too much
And he always gives the seller a second, third, or even fourth chance/option to "dump his dog" that nobody else wants.
I don't get it though.....how do you walk away & appear uninterested, but still keep your options open for a third or fourth offer? I tried that once around here. Kept leaving the guy notes on a rather rough looking roadster that was parked in a side yard. Car is gone now, but it's not at my house!
Tony talks to the owner in person and if he doesn't buy whatever it is then he leaves his business card. He'll check back in person every 6 months or so
Chuch, is that the approach you took when you bought ol' rusty from Tony?
keep in mind he goes for little cars very few people want or that have trees growing through them. don't know how well it would work on cars that are sought after.
actually Tony lost money on that one, happens to the best of us
actually this usually works pretty good if you don't have a case of gotta have. My buddy went a month ago over to Illinois to look a an 80 Le. Been repainted, but overall a decent driver, needing very little to be presentable. He passed on it at 3400 and a month later the guy who had it still hadn't sold it and offered it to him at 2000. he took it home for 1900, if I'd have seen it first I'd have it. the guy was trying too sell it locally in a town too small to have a market for it
