Three weeks ago, I'm coming home from work, slowed down to go under the railroad tressel, soon as I go to speed back up, a doe jumps in front of me. Barely clipped her rear thiegh spinning her around in front of me. I was able to stop. Minor fender damage.
Last week. My daughter has one jump out. She was able to swerve, smacks the deer with her right front. Deer goes into a yard. Bumper, light, fender and hood trash. Come's home safe. 98 Acura
Last night. My son, not wanting to be outdone. Hits a deer at 65 miles an hour.......direct hit. Totals the Hundyai! And walks away with a couple of airbag rub spots on his face.
Un-real!

I got one a few years back doing 110 kph (~70 mph) on the highway. Didn't even have time to touch the brakes. The whole front of my Ford Taurus was gone and I didn't have comprehensive insurance. The bodyshop was asking 4000$ just to straighten the front back to shape. The car worth $500 at the most. I bent the front end back in shape using a car jack and a wooden block, replaced the grille, radiator, bumper, fender, headlights, sidelights, steering pump, hood, airbox, computer, and a few other bits from the breaker yard. Cost me $200 total to repair and I drove it for 5 more years till I got tired of it (was running perfect still!). Those animals can cause a lot of damage..!!
Really glad your son had airbags. Up here we do not get as many deer strikes as some other states but they are big deer when they do get hit. MOOSE however are another story.
Wow! Glad you and your family got out okay! I've never hit a deer, but I had a very close call on my motorcycle once..

Why did you daughter smack the deer with her right foot. I guess more importantly is how:) HeeHee
Glad everyone is ok. I'm guessing that your son may have a few extra aches and pains come tomorrow morning

All three of you were very lucky the deer didn't come in through the windshield.
I threaded a 1970 Volvo between two on the right lane and three on my left up on I-55 while going to St. Louis one night. I didn't know better than to think they would stand still while I went by, which they by chance happened to do. Talk about dumb luck. I'll never forget the eyes, weird. I saw them before I saw the deer and had never seen anything like it. There were super slender beams of light reflecting back at me, white light, like a mercury vapor bulb makes. They started in the deer's eyes as points and expanded as needle like wedges back to my viewpoint and reminded me of lighted ice crystals. It was totally different than the reflection from the eye of any other animal I've seen on the road at night.
My wife hit two in two weeks with each of our 2 cars aboy a year or so ago. One we had to put a nose on, the other was just slight damage.
Dang, talk about Bad luck! I hit a doe head on with my buick as it was jumping over a fence. Aerosmith's "Dream On" was on the radio and ever time I hear that song I think of the deer getting creamed by my steel bumper.
I also hit one on my quad. That was a little more interesting.

Glad no one was seriously injured. I hit a couple in my day, only ones injured was the deer. Interestingly they both favored the drivers' side.

The deer or the car?
Damn Kevin, at least it was not one of your B's. What away to thin the herd. We have had several hits in our part of the country as well. That is why I don't drive my B in the evenings in the fall.

Back in the 70's my buddy was driving his custom van down a country road upstate. A farmer left his gate open and he struck one cow in the head and the second cow in the rear. After about $1,000 worth of body work he got the van back. The next day we headed to the USGP at the Glen, and guess what? The 2 day old body work got destroyed by a deer on Rte 17. You should have seen the face of the body shop guy we we went back on Monday!
At first, thought you lived in our county in E. OR. Pretty common occurences here. We literally kill hundreds of White Tail deer here with vehicle accidents. Not sure what size deer you got, but you do not want to hit one of these guys. Sounds like the Hyundai did well by your son as it should have. Closest call I ever had was on a car club outing in the mountains of ID and a big buck jumped from one side of the road through the air to the other almost over the hood of my MGA. Club member behind me thought I was going to buy the farm, and frankly so did I.
Early morning and twilight seem to be the times they move, and more than whistles, a good set of headlights and/or driving lamps make more sense to me, at least out here where I live in the middle of dark.
