In an attempt to upgrade my 74.5 MGB-GT I have recently had some luck on Ebay and found a set of 70's period Cosmic alloy wheels AND a NOS Webasto sunroof.
I have photographed the installation off the sunroof and thought I would share it with you.

Man I have always loved those Cosmic alloys. The car looks great. I bet you had to take a deep breath when making the initial cut for the webasto. Any regrets on the Webasto? Wind noise?

Very nice. Always liked the Webasto, but I'd have the nerve to do one.

Beautiful Job and beautiful car.

My mechanic has a Webasto sunroof at his place, new in the box, he has been trying to sell for someone for about 7 months. Only wants $200.00 cdn for it too. It would be nice on my 74.5 when it is done, but other stuff to worry about before something like that though.

Again, beautiful work.

Nice job-looks good. I don't think I've ever seen those wheels before, they look cool.

Very nice installation! The sunroof really adds a lot to the car...and the wheels? SPECTACULAR!! You have one really superb looking GT!!

Paul,
For $200. Canadian, you can't go wrong. Heck, I'll buy it and put it in my Mini.
I haven't had the GT out on the highway, to check for increased wind noise, but at 65MPH, I doubt I'll notice even MORE wind noise. If i do, then hopefully my upcoming Supercharger installation will create enough fuss, to overcome the wind noise.
Needless to say, Ed and I measured our dimensions about 6 times, then double checked, before I took out the cutting wheel. All in all, it went well.

What a beautiful GT! Just great looking!

I had a set of Cosmics on a B in the very early eighties and they were fine wheels, strong and easy to maintain. I must applaud you for having the kahunas to stand there and cut a hole in the top of that car. The finished product looks just fine, but I am not sure that I would have the guts to slice through that great paint job.

Cheers to you! Jack

Paul,

If you aren't going to buy it PLEASE let me have the garage guy's name and number. I will take the plunge on one of my GTs after seeing Pete's car!

Jack PM me or use teigwork@charter.net or call 828.205.4309 home this evening

Pete,

Did you have a little "fortification" and say a little prayer before you fired up that cut off wheel? LOL

I can attest to the fact that there were a few tense moments before that first cut. It was all downhill after that and I think it's a fantastic addition to a great GT.

Did anyone notice the "blacked-out" theme on the car? Matte-black bullet mirrors, black-spoked Moto-Lita wheel, the black/silver Cosmics, black/silver C-pillar GT badges, the new black sunroof, plus the black rubber bumpers! Not to mention the front air-dam painted matte-black and a set of Cibie lamps (with the black "C" in the center) that are not in the photos. It all adds up to a very 70's looking ride, IMHO B)

Great job on the install, but I never did like the look of the "soft-top" sunroof. Looks good though.

A couple of questions. First, I have a 71 GT that looks almost exactly like this without the roof. Before I spend any more money on the top half of the car, I would like to really do some under body reconditioning. From your photos, it looks like you have a lot of experience doing this type of work. Question: With the outside and interior of my car looking as good as your's, just how involved would you go in doing an under body reconditioning, i.e. floor pans and basically any and everything you can get to on the under side.

I have a 71 GT that looks almost like your's. Unfortunately the car really needs a reconditioning to the under side. With the fact that the car has been repainted and interior redone,,,,,just how far would you go trying to do the under side? Ideally, it would have been better to have had it sand blasted from the very beginning. Any suggestions??

I have a customer who wants a Webasto for his GT that I'm restoring.

NICE! If I had a GT I would want the Rag top! Very cool!

That top's a very nice addition. Well done!

When Pete sees this thread revived he's gonna be sorry he sold that GT!

Mike, if your car has a new paintjob but a lot of rust underneath it was done out of order. You could do the rust work now and try to colormatch (likely have to paint from the chrome strip down) but it will be an uphill battle.
