I have been having a flooding problem on my 79B with Weber DGV since I got it a month or so ago.
I have tracked it down to me living above 6500ft where liquids boil at lower tempuratures... When the car is stopped after a bit of a drive, the heat from the (closed) engine compartment boils the fuel in, I beleive, the accelorator pump circuit. You can hear it slowly pissing...The fuel in the bowl is fine because it has enough of a vent-to-atmospere to keep it relatively cool. But, it empties the fuel from the bowl, thru the accel circuit into the (Pierce) intake manifold so that when I try and start the car, I find it flooded. You can see the fuel building up on top of the closed butterfly valves in the throats.

If, after I stop, I open the hood to cool the engine compartment, everything is fine. Starts right up. My actual engine temp, from guage, is fine. No overheating while running.

I purchased a 7mm insulator/spacer from Pierce and installed it between the carb and manifold, having "some" success.
They also make a 12mm spacer but I am afraid of hood/air cleaner interference. Does anyone have any experience on this matter. Are ther any other options? Side draft Webers? Dual SUs? Cro$$ Flow head to get the carb away from them hot pipes? I hate to have to put a hood scoop on unless I get the supercharger.

;)

thanks,

ml

Mark: I dont have any better advice on the spacer, but why not rig up a heat shield similar to that used on the dual SU setup? I am thinking that a suitably sized piece of sheet metal, held to the Pierce manifold with a u-bolt(s) or such, with insulation on the bottom side facing the exhaust manifold would help. It would be bolted to the intake manifold as close to the engine block as possible and then angled downwards under the carb so as not to touch either manifold.
Or buy the Moss supercharger kit, give it to me, and I'll gladly trade you my dual SUs! ;>)
