One of the welded on nuts that my armrest bolts to inside the door popped off.
What can I do? There's no way I could weld that sucker back on. UGH!
I can't be the first person this has happened to.
thanks

There is a tool very similar to a rivet gun called a "Nut Sert." Pop one in with the thread of your choice ad you are good to go. Some places rent them. Google it up and under images you will see what they are.
Pete
Pete-Are you referring to a threadsert? If nothing else, make up a backing plate, use some JB weld to hold it in place and you are good to go.
Hammer and nails?
ahahahahahaha
Since this is not something that requires a lot of holding power the JB weld or similar product is a great idea.
There are Also plastic inserts that can be fitted into the square hole.
For some reason, I'm not remembering a captive nut being welded on there. I seem to remember there being a plastic insert being there.
What do others think?

JB weld .Please!! Use a plastic plug available in the right size at Napa. You might need to use a small half round file to get the hole to match. Originals had an unusual nylon shaped plug, but the Napa square one is just fine.
David
There's not a square hole here. It's round and just bigger than the screw that fits through it. This is on a '73. I have a 74 parts car that has the plastic inserts. I wish they fit.
I did try JB Weld, it didn't hold for long. Maybe there's a glue I can find that will work.
Walter, do you have a welder? If so weld a nut of the proper size onto a piece of sheet metal and that can be pop riveted to the door frame to hold the nut in place. Welding is done off the car. Also a good method of repairing missing weld nuts behind the brackets for the folding top.
Nutserts look good. Don't need the tool by the looks of things.
