Anyone know what this rectangular plastic thing is? It has two brown wires going in on both sides, and is underneath the starter relay in my 1977. Cant tell what it is from the wiring diagram - could it be a circuit breaker? Doesnt look like the one for the fan. Could it be a connector? Doesnt look like any other, and why would it need to be there anyway? So what the hell is it?

It's simply a connector for the brown circuit.

It is a connector. I just pulled mine out since I'm stripping the car for paint and I plan on putting an Advance Auto Wire harness in it. The wiring schematics on Advance's website show it.

FINALLY! an engine compartment that looks like mine! I got one of them too, and wondered, but figured connector since it has the big browns in it. A regular little plug might not handle the current.

Dr. Lucas strikes again!
Why in the world is a connector needed there? Why not have two continuous wires?

What the heck is the yellow zip cord lamp wire for?

If I remember right, that connector was used so when shipping the new cars over it could be unplugged until it was time to offload...

Thats wire from my fan over ride switch. I am still trying to figure out why my alternator is overheating, and am re-wiring stuff.

John will this make you feel any better?
Some of these are even after fixing things.
It is amazing what you can do to these cars and they still run.
Please note the uniform color of all things.

The first and third photo look like a birds nest Michael, John its a 30 amp block connector that I think is fitted so the ignition switch circuit can be isolated.

If you have a digital voltage meter, could you check the voltage at the third fuse down with the engine off? Something like .05 volts.

Michael: The good thing is that if you ever have a problem with the electric's you will know that it's the "red" wire.

Seriously, you have done quite a bit of electrical work (I can tell from the wires that are not red) and, if the car is running fine, you must have done it right.

However, some serious "clean-up" in your engine bay would do wonders. It does look a bit like a can of paint exploded with the hood closed.

How is the outside?
