MGB: What's it worth?

A 1979 roadster - rust free - does not run - don't know why - everything is there but the interior will need to be redone - No OD - paint is oxidized but no major dents.

Wants me to make an offer.

At this point, I think I should treat it like a rolling tub, since I don't know what's wrong with the engine. If I went to the time and trouble to find out what's wrong with the engine and it was minor, the price he'd take would probably go up. If the engine is beyond repair, i would basically be buying a rolling tub...

What do you think would be a reasonable offer? $500? More? Less?

The last one I bought was a little rougher than what you described and I paid $300. but it had a running motor. If you like it, buy it at $4-500 knowing that you can always get the used motor pieces fairly cheap. Just figure that it's going to cost you way more when the "I'll just do one more thing" bug kicks in and the tub is stripped for paint, a new motor is built, etc. But what the heck, it keeps you out of the bars! :)

As I just posted in another thread...

Rockers from Moss $600
Floors $4000

Not having to replace them yourself....priceless!

So when you all talk about paying $500 for a car that I need to spend $1000 in parts and 100 hours of labor to fix, I wanna cry. I would easy pay 1000 for a trully rust free shell!

I bought a 67 with NO ENGINE, and NO TRANS, NO GUAGES, NO INTERIOR for $1500 about 4-5 years ago.

So, it definitely depends on where you are. I needed some body parts, so, what can ya do?

If the body is straight, then I suppose even $1000 wouldn't be out of the ballpark, HOPING of course, that the engine was repairable.

A straight body, with NO RUST IS KING!!!!
