MGB: Whats in your neighbors garage?

A response to a thread not long ago got me to thinking. While strolling around your neighborhood, are you occassionally intrigued by what others choose to save for that "future project"? So I'm known as "that guy at the end of the street with an MG fetish". (Heard that from a neighbors kid working in SF at a hotel I was making reservation in) My next door neighbor is saving the canopy from a sailplane. Neighbor down the street restored a 30 ton hydraulic jack (Whuffo?) I kinda dislike the guy across the street with Studebaker Golden Hawk that hasn't moved in 25 years that I know of.

Well MG folks are very strange people with a strange fetish and they get looked at all the time. I used to stop crowds of people talking when I flew by in the old yellow Midget. Now with no MG no looks :(

Anyway....There is a guy in my neighborhood has a 74 MGB it the large over riders I don't think He drives the B at all. From time to time I will see it in the driveway but not on the road. As for the rest my neighbors there are into (American Muscle Cars) There was a guy with a TR6 years ago :)

In our old neighborhood there was a guy with two Willys things in his garage. He was always walking down the alley to watch The Wiz work on the 65...

Around here there's not much; the guy next door has his brother's mid-70s Trans Am. Dude behind us has an old Mercedes 240D.

And we're the ones known as "The Car People" on our block. LOL

My neighbors are SO boring. There are a couple decent Harleys on the block, but that's it. Everyone comes over here to see the show. Lots of visitors from big Healeys, MGBs, Jags, to the occasional Superbird. Next week will be a '56 Willys wagon with a Rover V8. :)

No car nuts on my street, but around the corner there's a beautiful grey 40 Ford 5-window opera coupe. He drives it regularly, used to have a Model A also. He has friends with a 41 Ford biz coupe and a circa 48 coupe. Sometimes the tree parade out of the neighborhood together, presumably going to a club event. All three are restored to perfection.

Besides my collection, our street has a thriving resto crowd. There are 2 mgs in hiding, 57 chev that's loaded up with garage junk, an orange mustang 2 fastback rodded out, a 64? black 4dr.pontiac in original condition, corvair, monte carlo Earnhardt, nissan 350Z, BMW Z3, jag.

My next door neighbor (and good friend) loves VW Beetles. One is his daily driver, and another one is scheduled for a complete restoration (probably starting this fall). Down the street is a guy who seems to always have at least 7-8 cars parked in his driveway. He completed sort of a restoration of a 240Z...pretty nice to see. Other than that...not too many other gear heads.

Of the 4 houses on my court, there is one other guy who is into cars, he has a '69 mustang fastback, its pretty cherry, I only see him drive it once a month or so.

I live out in the country.

Two out of five neighbours have tractors. (One, a nicely restored Oliver).

But...in town, there is a DeLorean hiding in one garage.

'69 Mustang. My favorite year Mustang.
Around the immediate area I am amazed at how many collector and hobby cars there are. Two doors down is a Porsche collector. He has a red speedster, a 356 coupe, an early 70's RS and and a mid '80's 911. Just on the opposite corner of my house a guy has a '70 Roadrunner, his neighbor has a C-4 Corvette and his neighbor has a 70 or 71 Nova SS. It goes on and on around here. I like taking walks and just looking in peoples garages. I bet in just in a 6 block area there are probably 20 hobby cars in garages. Pretty cool huh?

I am the only MG person in my neighborhood but there is a ratty TR-4 and a gorgeus TR-3 at two different houses on the next block over.

I know there are a few M.G.s around, but I never see them out on driveways or in garages. I'll pass them from time to time on the roads, but never in the neighborhood. Kind of strange really.

Right behind me is an MGA that's been outside for the 9 years I've been there. Down the street a guy has a Cobra kit car. There's a red chrome bumper B a couple of blocks over. I just noticed another guy that has or had another Cobra kit car had an MGA. We also have a few street rods and hopped up pickups in the neighborhood.

My next door neighbor has a 1969 and 1965 GTO. The 69 is a driver and the 65 (tri-power!) is a project.

I live on a short street - with 3 MGB's. Mine, a blue RB with w/w and a white top, and a 64 chromey with a primrose yellow paint job. It's been on blocks for 3 years, but I expect it to see light of day soon. There's a 1948 Plymouth for sale one house over, but we all hate that guy. Up the street across from mine are two Model A Fords, and 2 tri-Chevy's (don't know exact year). Lotta car buffs around me!

Jim:

There was a time when I would have given my left n _ t for a Studebaker Golden Hawk. I always wanted one to drop a big Chrysler hemi-head in for power. Gawd, but that was a long, long time ago......... :eyepop:

Opposite there is a Ferrari F430 and down a few houses in one triple garage a Morris Minor 1000 convertible, MGTC , Austin Healey 3000 and a genuine 1930 Austin 7 "Ulster" race car undergoing restoration. Two further down a 74 MGB awaiting paint. A reasonable near neighbourhood but plenty of others in our small town

My neighbor down the street has a restored 60's something MGB that he did himself. He's not very friendly so I haven't bugged him about MG's yet.

Not many old car junkies in my neighborhood, but lots of old cars. My neighbor just dragged home a 1950s Willys Jeep pickup in reasonably poor condition (meaning that it needs everything fixed up, but it is not swiss cheese ~ yet). Most of the other derelicts are just old cars with little special about them (like Ford Tauruses, Dodge Omnis, Datsun/Toyota/Mazda pickups, Buicks, and Old mobiles. One neighbor however does have a Fiat X1/9 occupying a place of honor in his back yard but altho it does look restorable, it also looks like no one has done anything in years. Otherwise, most of my neighbors probably don't want me scoping out their garages too carefully.

So tempting to load up the pick up and drive over...

I can almost believe they have nothing else in their garage....because the retired couple across from us is nearly the same.....clean freaks. They might have a broom and a trash can in the garage....and honestly....nothing else. I'm sure they think we are trailer trash!

When I lived in San Diego, most people had their garages split into storage units and/or extra livingrooms or bedrooms.
I always thought that was were you put the inlaws when they came for the weekend.
Back in the Midwest, it's crazy... people actually DO put cars in their garages.
And where I live now, I'm blessed with no neighbors, so my own garage has (besides my project cars) a huge air compressor, power tools, and my bachelor-era megawatt stereo! No worries about noise complaints!

My neighbors' interesting cars include a late '60s Camaro convertible, Porsche 928, Datsun 280Z, and an early 50s Chevy pickup. The guy with the Boxter moved.
