Probably a relay. Could be a starter relay.

...and the rocker switch immediately left of the oil pressure gauge is the hazard switch (unless Bubba changed it!).

Otherwise known as the brake warning light...

....of which 90% or better are non-functional anyhow. DON'T go messing with the bias switch connected to it under the hood; if you tear it up it's big bucks (around $400 if I recall correctly) to replace. Rebuild parts are available and cheap, but I don't know how well they work.

On a '79 the warning light isn't where he talking about...

The box under the fuse box is a relay, but I would like to know why it is there. It only has 1 wire going in and 1 wire out. I thought purpose of a relay was to switch higher voltage or amps with a lower voltage input. My 79B has a Hazard rocker switch on the left side and Fan rocker switch on the right. Each switch has a place for another switch above it, but both have blank plates on them. Must have been for some option?

Are you sure it's a relay? If it's the little box I think your talking about, my '78 has a green wire and a white/brown wire attached to it. The only thing on my wiring diagram that has that combination of only two wires attached to it is the "line fuse for radiator thermostat". Looks like the little box is a special fuse - or a housing containing a fuse - and it's too damn hot in the garage right now to investigate further...
The inboard switch blanking plate on the dash is for the optional retractable hardtop (roadster) or moonroof (GT). The outboard switch blanking plate is for the optional power mirrors...

That's the little box, same color wires on mine, I just assumed it was a relay. But what you say sounds right, I will check it in the morning. I didn't even know about the options you just mentioned. Thanks Joe...

Really.....I thought everyone had seen those options!

Nope...never knew about them. I only had the power seats and tilt wheel options.
