I just tried my regular mechanic in Ann Arbor, and he is 'hesitant' to do this. Says it's been about 7 years since they last mounted tires on wire rims.
My rims 'appear' strait, and I have no ride issues with them, so I'm not too worried about getting them trued before mounting new tires. But I do know enough to stay away from the chain places without a good recommendation on an experienced tire tech.
Thanks!
Where in SE Michigan can I get tires mounted on Wire Rims?

Bob, I used and recomend Bob's Tire in Brighton, Mi. Ask for Bob or his son. Bob made sure that we used radial tubes to match the radial tires. Also, no marks on the rims!
Good luck,
Any tire store or garage with a tire machine manufactured in the last 15 years should have no problem mounting your tires. The older tire machines used a vertical spike, that was inserted between 2 spokes, to keep the wheel from rotating when the tire was being mounted. The newer machines use 4 rubber covered pads that lock onto the inside of the rim and pose no threat to the spokes. Many tire shops are fearful of working on wire wheels due to outdated information. RAY
ray is right about the machines, but you need an OLD guy with the new machine to do the actual changeover or repair, someone that knows how to install tubes. young guys have no knowledge of tubed wheels, and the correct procedure.
Thanks Guys! I'll start with a call to Bob's Tires in Brighton. It should be nice drive this weekend. Any excuse for a road trip, right! B-)
