MGB: Will MGA rear shock linkage bar - fit MGB?

Tally ho gents!

I want to know if the shorter rear linkage bar of the MGA between the shock arm and the connection point will fit on the MGB?

My 79 B is lowered and I'm going to replace the inverted worn original leafs, (that lowered the car by 2 inches)...with reverse eye'd leafs from Moss. I've lost yet another inch in the rear - as the inverted leafs have sagged. I was going to have the leafs re-arched - but it aint worth doing really. However, since the lowered car has lost geometry, the stock MGB linkages are too long - rendering the shock travel minimal currently - thus using the shorter MGA linkages will re-gain needed shock travel.

Please advise as to whether or not - the bolt holes are the same size, and the linkages will work from the MGA linkage to the MGB shock arm bolt hole to shock and to bottom bolt hole connection point.

Cheerio chaps, Dan

Unless my memory fails me, they are identical other than length.

Dan, have you considered swapping the lower spring plates side for side and inverting? That will get you almost 2" more travel on the shocks with the links you have currently.

Hey Bill, Okay - I can't quite envision what that means you're saying - but sounds good based on your explanation. What is the lower-spring plates? And do you have a schematic? Sounds like that works easier than spending the money for new links and changing them out...do tell...

I think one of you is talking front shocks, and one of you is talking rear shocks...........

Chrome bumper links are shorter than rubber bumber ones.

I found out today that the earlier chrome B's had shorter (rear) shock linkages. So I'll use those instead of the A linkage.

Dan, too late, but FYI, MGA shock links ARE the same as chromey-MGB shock link. Same part number 6144 is stamped on the link shaft.
RubbereryBs have a link longer 12011 is stamped on it.

Dan, for reference the lower spring mounting plate, item 23 in the catalog drawing, can be removed and installed on the opposite side with the "ear" where the shock link bolts pointing downwards instead of up. This will give about 2" more distance between the shock and the spring mount, in many cases enough to keep the shocks near the center of their range with stock length links. This is commonly done when converting to tube type rear shocks as well.

Bill, That is a brilliant tech-tip - the best one I can think of that someone has shared for many many moons. I will do just that - when I get to the re-installation of my leafs. I'm most likely going to use the Moss-U.K. reversed eyed 2 inch lower as new, Moss Leaf springs. I spoke to Ken there at Moss in their Tech-dept., and he stated that although the regular height leafs for CB and RB are not of good quality right now; as they sag and/or don't function correctly - the reversed eyed 2 inch as new Leaf Springs [are] of good quality and function properly and don't sag. They also have a two year warranty for any defects or sagging.

I may contact you directly to get more details. Many thanks, Dan
