Curious to see what it goes for... I have a 1972... almost that nice... my engine compartment could use a bit of cleaning and I know of things I would like to do, but no need to dos.
Cannot help to notice a few things right off the bat. Add says it's a 72 but tag says it was built in 72. Hs4s hwere thw 72 should have HIF4s. The bag style ww tank is from a later model as well and as far as I know, the 72s did not have the anti run on valve, at least mine did not have these. All said, it is a fine car and I would not be suprised if it brings 8K easily
Heater controls look wrong too - off a much newer car I think! I am astonished that it would sell for over 10K - I would think it would have to be absolutely perfect to get that kind of money. On the other hand, the more it sells for, the more mine is worth!
Nice car! I guess if everyone else is picking at it, I would add that it looks like the rear springs have not settled. Those Dayton Chrome wires sure do look nice. Though, I just got nice black leather skins with red piping for my red car, I wonder what it would have looked like in tan...
If it were here in the northeast, it might easily reach 12k - 13k.
It sits too high front and rear, almost as though it's a converted RB. That'd explain the heater controls, and some other stuff. There's a lot of other little odd things... undoubtedly, it's a very, very nice car, but you're not buying a perfectly restored model there, and I have to wonder what's hidden below. Could be a wonderful car, could be one of those you really need to check out.
It may or may not have been a benefactor of the Barrett Jackson syndrome, but I've seen auction fever take hold in a big way there, and people bid way, way higher than they would pay for the same car through normal channels. This year the muscle cars went nuts, but so did a couple of E types.......
I think with the things that aren't right and considering the condition of the car cosmetically it is well worth 10K. The interior, paint, wheels, and tires are worth that. It wouldn't take much to make it correct, and if the mecanical was done and done right it would bring much more.
If I wanted a really good B, all the things that we found wrong with this car would not stop me from paying maybe 10K for it. The only reason I pointed anything out was that the sell calls it restored. To me, restored me as new, or as original, which this car is not. The fact that it is not as original, to me, does not reduce it's value as a driver, and a driver is what I believe a MGB should be
Ok, how is that alternator attached???????? Looks like it's coming off the old air pump connector! It's a good looking car, but seeing that makes me wonder what was done on the inside of the engine.
