I had the same problem Wray had with the windshield binding against the vent window. What I did was loosen all the mount bolts to the windshield, placed two paint stir sticks on the leading edge of the vent window. I then shut the door with the sticks between the vent window and frame. Next I climed into the car with the doors closed, and tighten the windshield mounting bolts. WALA now the door will close and not push on the frame. It came out perfic. That was the least of my problems. When I went to install the side bolts I couldn't even see one of the threaded holes. Lot's of poking, prying and pushing their in place. Damn I hate those windshield jobs. I got one more and that's it for me. I will not ever do another one.

That paint stick thing is a neat idea. I lucked out on mine and all it took was pulling the top right of the frame back a little while I tightned one bolt. Otherwise everything was lined us just right.

Mine is not really a question of alignment. The whole right side needs to go forward about another 1/2", minimum. I looked at several Bs in the junkyard and a number of them had holes for the bolts that were at least a half inch in diameter. They had many different alignment situations; some right but a lot weren't. A couple pushed the frame up just like mine.

I've carefully elongated mine about a 1/4"; the problem now is the upper bolt's washer is up against the body part that sticks out. I can see it pretty good. I have the dash out and the cover piece that hides the frame tang off. I have to cipher how I'm going to address the upper hole problem. Not hardly any more room to play with there. I plan to elongate it a little more and shave a few thou off the washer. Then it will be were it's going to live.

Tom's method would work great for getting the angles right between the vent window and the frame, provided the stupid frame fit correctly to begin with.

Man, I hate not having something right.

Grind all you need to off one side of that washer, there will still be plenty to hold where it needs to.

There isn't much to grind off. They already have one side that is pretty well flat. What he's talking about is a real problem. I wonder if that fender is one of those aftermarket fenders that was sold some years ago. If it is they DID NOT fit at all. I know because I tried to install one , and it was waaaay off. That's one reason you don't see them for sale any more. None of them fit. VB had them for $199. They were a piece of junk.

now, Tom...if you take some photos on your next job, we can probably find a place for that tip....

OK, that clears up a lot of stuff. He's got some immovable obstruction in the fender itself, like the placement of the windshield mount or the back edge of the fender is 1/2 inch short or what it should be.

Man, I get into some of these problems and thank my lucky stars for getting a damn good car to rebuild at a time when I didn't know anything about MGs. It was a dream boat compared to a lot of what I see here. I've flipped, (sold quickly), and junked better cars than many that these guys are working with.

I've got the opposite problem. Too much gap between the vent window & windscreen frame.
I've adjusted the vent windows all the way for ward.
As I understand it there is some adjustment in the fastenings for the windscreen?
ie: Loosen & it should be able to be moved backwards?

Loosen and rock back into place.
