Hello All,

On a 71 MGB, is there only one wiper speed? I know sounds crazy, but finally got the wipers motor working, but it runs very slowly and I don't know if there is a high and low speeds on the switch, or motor is bad, or a relay is shot.

By slow I mean approximately 2 seconds from for the wipers to complete one revolution.

Hi David,
Don't know if the 71 had more than one speed, but if your switch moves more than one notches then it probably does.

It sounds like you need to clean up your wiper motor. Take it down and clean out all the old gunk on the track. Once you open the cover you'll see some more "gunk" so clean that out as well. I think white lithium grease is a good replacement. Also, clean up the brushes (or send it to a alternator/generator repair shop-I had both of my electric cooling fans rebuilt for $25).

My 70's got two speeds... both of which are faster than that.

Or, if it's bad, you can replace it for over $100.
