I've just started putting my 72 Midget back together, after 3 years. I took lots of pictures, and drew giagrams, of lots of stuff, but....
I can't see, nor remember, where the wiring is routed for the electroninc fuel pump, in the trunk area.
This is the branch of wires that's come off the rear wiring harness, along the passenger side in the trunk area, then run underneath the car to the fuel pump and gas tank sending unit.
Anyone have any pictures, or direction?
I'll probably have lots of questions like this as I reassemble everything. It's amazing the little details that get lost along the way.

I don't know if this is factory correct or not. I had no photos when I started putting my car together. But, the three wires fit nicely through a rubber grommet in one of the holes on the RH side of the boot near the heel board. In my situation the wires are for the main fuel pump, the fuel sending unit, and an accessory fuel pump.

no photos handy, but you are right, the wiring for the rear of the car runs along the passenger side rocker x floor junction, around the base of the B-post (from here it goes outboard of the interior trim) and then over the rear wheel arch to the hole right behind the RH rear wheel (there should be a 1/2" or 5/8" hole drilled in the filler panel). The harness splits over the wheel well to power the courtesy light, and then splits again around the hole I just mentioned, to continue on to the rear lights.
From that hole in the filler panel, it goes to the fuel sender, and then routes back toward the front of the vehicle, up over the rear axle to, finally, the pump.
The bit of harness that makes the journey over the rear axle is protected by a pvc tube which is taped to the fuel pipe who is making the same journey.

the hole that Mr. 1275midget used is actually meant for one of the fuel pump breathers (there are two of them). If you route your wires through here, make sure to secure them well so that shifting luggage does not cut/tear/dislodge them. The advantage of the factory routing is that the body structure prevents luggage from contacting them.

Thanks guys, I'm going out to the garage to look at it right now. I thought of routing it like you have yours Mike, but I also knew, from my pictures, that wasn't were they were originally.
I don't have a photo journal yet, although I do have a lot of pictures.
Can anyone recommend a free web hosting service that is good? Mike, I've been checking yours out on Picasa. Are you happy with them, is it free?

If you are using a non vented tank and have done away with the charcoal canister and use an electronic pump in place of the SU pump, the holes for the vents Norm mentions ( pictured in Mike's post ) can simply be plugged with plastic plugs or rubber blanking grommets.

you may want to re-think the routing for those wires of yours, as Norm says, they will get damaged where you have them run. IMHO

I found the hole you mentioned Norm. It was just far enough forward in that area, that I couldn't see it from the trunk side. When I was underneath looking, I was looking up near where the fuel pump mounts. Got it now! Thanks again.

Norm and Andrew; the wires as shown are under matting and carpet. Very protected. Is there any other reason I should condider rerouting?:)

I just checked my car, couldn't find a hole behind the RH rear wheel? Various panels were replaced on my car, could it be that a repair piece or patch is missing the hole?
Anyone got a handy photo for location?

If you want to stick with the routing you've chosen, I would certainly wrap those wires in some readily available sheathing from the local parts store and keep them routed as high as possible to prevent being pinched by any heavy objects that may end up in the boot in years to come.
As Norm mentioned in his post, the factory routing keeps them out of the luggage area completely, so the risk of damage is not there to begin with.
Seriously, it's possible ( though unlikely ) they can be damaged under the car too by flying debris etc, but in the boot, they are more likely to end up pinned by a heavy object with the possibility of causing a short, that is the only reason I suggest moving them. If you are satisfied that the risks are acceptable, then my concerns are of no matter.
Your car looks to be coming along very nicely, and you will have a great looking example of the marque when it's finished.

Here are two pictures to show the fuel pump wire routing.
Now I see! Thanks for going to the trouble to post the 2 pics. I've been under that part of the car 50 times in the past 2-3 months and couldnt remember any access opening. It seems the area where the wire opening is supposed to be on my car has rivets and weld seams. No hole was drilled in the patch piece. I'll have to decide in the spring whether or not to make the change. It would be easy enough.
