Is it feasible / not a problem / to replace the wiring harness on a car that is a "rolling" restoration or is there too much stuff that has to be taken off to make it easier to wait until you are going to do that sort of thing (i.e. "body off"/rotary fixture) in in the works anyway.

Mac,

It has been more than a few years but my '69 got new wiring from front to rear and everywhere inbetween while still being assembled. Obviously, the dash had to be removed and reinstalled but the rest was pretty straight forward. As I recall it was a 3 piece wiring harness plus the overdrive harness. The OD harness is what shorted out and took the rest out with it including the OD/wiper switch.

Cheers,

Rob

What year? I did my 62 in a weekend without removing the dash. I'd imagine that a later car would have a few more wires than an early one would. I used the system where you cut off all the ends on the connectors to show what color wire to hook back up.

You can do it with the dash in place, but it is so much easier with the dash off (six(?) nuts). Drop the steering too.
The biggest pain is getting the loom through the bulkhead; cover the loom with pantyhose or some such to keep it from gettng nicked.
Use an elastrator to spread the cowl seal so the loom can go through.
Allen's method of cut and replace the coded wires works well as long as all the connections are in the right place to begin with.

I managed this job a few months back and it is doable as described above. I did remove the dash and also protected the harness as it was fed through the fire wall. If you don't use the snipped wire method, take a lot of pics or diagram. My harenss was from British Wire and fell into place.
