Putting together an early 74B and installing new wiring harness and starter relay. Unfortunately the car was completely disassembled and I did not take it apart, otherwise I might have taken a picture or two. My book says W2 is black wire, C1 is brown wire, C2 is white/brown wire and all good up to here. Then the book says W1 is a white wire and my wiring harness has a yellow wire which seems to be located in the proper location to attach to the starter relay. Not sure where to find the white wire? thanks, Phil

My understanding is that the only yellow wire in an MG is for the overdrive - maybe someone ran out of white when building your harness?

According to the wiring diagram for a 73/74 (http://www.advanceautowire.com/mgb.pdf) the connections are:

W2 - Ground (black)
W1 - Yellow-Pink (to the seat belt module)
C1 - Brown (from fuse box)
C2 - White/Brown (to starter)

Seems likely you will want to bypass the horrible set belt thingie, and probably connect the Yellow-Pink to the White Red from teh ignition switch, which is presumably done where the seat belt module is located near the interior console.

If you connect the white brown wire to the yellow pink you will be bypassing the stater relay. The reason I know? I am in the same boat as you are. Took a 74 harness and replaced my 73 harness. Previious owner decided to do a household wiring job complete with wire nuts. The Schematics don't give a name for #174 so I was totally last until I got a tip from a person on another forum. Hope this helps you!
