The Begining Of A New Love

Well, I have officially gotten into the MG world with a new project. I have previously built or helped to build several american muscle cars, lifted vintage 4x4's, and unique autos. I have yet to venture into the realm of british autos...until now.

The Project:

A 1967 MGB Roadster. The car was given to me by someone who was just going to send her to the scrap yard after it sat in storage for the last 18 years. THe car has a lot of rust, but is pretty much all original. Has not been cut up or modified. Hell it even has the original paint on it..(whats left of it anyway). The car was stored for the last 18 years in a storage unit, but the unit was not climate controlled, so the temprature, moisture, and time have taken their toll on the poor gal.

At this point she is in my garage, and awaiting a full strip down. Over the next few months I will completely disassemble the little car, every bolt, nut, hinge, and braket will be removed and inspected. They will then be reconditioned or replaced as necessary and reassembly will begin.

THe body will be completely striped of paint, primer, rust, and dirt. Patch panels will be applied where needed, minimal body filler will be added to smoth the lines and the patched areas, and then a fresh clean coat of paint will be applied. Right now, I am thinking a very deep purple color with a gold metal flake will fit the bill, however I am sure the little gal will tell me if she prefers something different. I generally dont decide on the paint color until all body work is complete, but this little car has been screaming for a gold metal flake since I brought her home.

I am sure i will take some heat from the traditionalists on the site if I chose a paint color out of the norm, but I am an artist, and I have never been one for a bone-stock resto on a classic car. The car will be tasteful, but it will have my signature attached to it at the same time.

I will continue to update this journal throughout the process and welcome all of your feedback on the project.

Jeff
